One of my favorite bands used vintage Marshall amps to record bass tracks and I love the tone he got out of it. My guitar player has a Marshall JCM2000 100W Tube amp, and we're going to try this out. My question to you is, have you ever done or heard of anyone doing this? If so what are some things to watch out for or keep in mind? Tyler

I've always heard it's easy for a bass to blow a guitar amp. I don't know if it's true with tube amps as well. I'd research it a good bit before trying it.

Bass will put stress on a guitar cabinet, especially if you boost the lows a lot.

Thanks, Funk.

Playing bass through a Marshall tube head may give you some nice distorted sounds, and it is unlikely that you would damage the head. As previously mentioned, using a guitar speaker cabinet, however, could result in damage to the speaker. Additionally, I don't think it would sound as good as a modern bass cab. Good luck.

So my guitar player and I were messing around with this the past couple nights. Sounds awesome. I love the tone you can get out of it, lots of highs, really snappy and barky. I was surprised at how much lows it pushed, I was expecting it to not be as low as that. I had bass cranked to 10, mids at 7, treb at 5ish, and presence at about 3. I was on the clean channel, with the gain at around 3 or 4. Point of the story, I was very impressed.
