I know this has been asked before and thanks to those threads I've found most of the answers i'm looking for but just wondering a couple of things.
I'm changing the hardware on my new combustion to black, got most of the bits sorted but i'm wondering about bridges and string retainer.
Do you know if these Hipshots drop strait in? There isn't much info on the Hipshot website, can these be installed without that string through bolt and if they can do they even fit/match the current holes? - http://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.p ... tail&p=223

Unfortunately I have no experience with either of those parts. My guess is that the Hipshot parts will fit well but the string retainer will be hit or miss. Worst case you can go without the string retainer if you wind the string low enough on the post on the middle strings.
Thanks Sheldon, a bit of further investigation suggests the Hipshots wont without a bit of routing as the bottom isn't flat, might just go with the ABM's, i just like the black finish on Hipshot stuff is all.
There seems to be a few string retainers out there with different screw spacing so i might just try a couple, may end up ditching it as you say.

Well the string retainer i bought fit but i really dig this without one, so i just plugged the holes with a couple of tiny black screws that came with the new retainer.
All seems to be fine, the A doesn't look like it has much angle to it but i cant hear any issues.
Black nut now i reckon...

Did you just spray paint it?
Pretty much yeah, i got a can of spray paint suitable for metal (matt black finish to to try and get somewhere near the hipshot finish) and i had a can of spray poly clear coat kicking around so put a very fine coat of that on to give it a chance of lasting.
No doubt the underside will scrape off with the strings fairly easy but the visible side seems good.
