I have a folder on my computer where I collect every photo of a Dingwall that I can find. I was just looking through the dozens of photos I have collected and was struck by the variety of looks and asthetics that Sheldon has built into his basses. Many builders guitars tend to look very similar , but nearly all of Sheldon's basses are unique. He is obviously a free thinker when it comes to bass buliding and he's not afraid to honor the requests of his customers - I have 3 one-of-a-kind Dingwalls to prove it. Mad props to Dr. Wood for his willingness to think outside the bass-building box.

Can you make a little collage for us? It would be cool to see them side-by-side or in a matrix of sorts to see the variety.

Nice pics, Frank. I really like the finish on the one labelled DINGWALL_ABI__5_BB.JPG. I have heard that Sheldon doesn't do solid body colors anymore. What is this color called? And how about DINGWALL_Z2__RED3.JPG, is that a metal flake in the paint? Something else I thought Sheldon just did not do. Were these special requests and who do I have to begg to get such a finish! Thanks

For the picture collectors, here are some shots my friend took for me of the bass I bought from Darth Moley.

It's coming home sometime in December.

I have been collecting every pic of a Dingwall bass I could find as well. It's funny that some of them ended in my hands!!! 8) 8) 8)

Over Xmas I will get some HQ pics of the Dingwall family and I am waiting for Sheldon's call for my Prima Artist (may I skip the queue please???? my Dingwall-itis is an emergency)

Of course, Frank. That's where I gathered nearly all of my Dingwall pix, from your original posts. :) Thanks for your hard work in archiving the beauty that is a Dingwall. I have the pix as my screensaver, in a never-ending rotation, to keep my Dingwall GAS in a chronic state of rumbling, as if having Dingwalls sitting around my music room wasn't enough!

So, where are all the Dingwalls? Forum members own only a fraction of the basses pictured on various threads. I'd love to see a website dedicated to seeking out the rest.

Can we create an Excel that will start with the Serial Number , continue with the Model (Prima, Z, AB I, ABII, Pre/Post fire), Date (Sheldon will be able to fill in the date for each; Sheldon I know you hate me for proposing this but I'm just trying to keep you busy :P ), Body Woods (core woods, 2-3piece,front/back tops and accent venners, finish, special notes), Neck (woods and fingerboard), frets, Headstock [Matching/black, tuners (brand, normal/ultralite/locking) Detuner(s)], Pickups (type and position), Electronics (Active/Passive/Both), Special Notes (renovations, upgrades etc), Pictures and owner(till now) (It's better to be able to trace the story of the instrument).

Data need to be submitted to one of the webmasters to arrange all by Serial Number and to post. I will try to do it over the weekend and then I will post a link to download the Excel and each and every one of us to reocord his/her own basses

Yeah, the Dingwall registry that I proposed a while back. It would be very cool. I'm not sure Sheldon has the time, though. Perhaps some forum members could help out, like Fullie suggested.

Well, Fullrange has about 50% of the Dingwalls built, so it should not be too hard to track! :D

50% only? Oh my God! I thought i was close to 70% :P

By the way, I have just finished finetuning my soundcard and my music rec software. Over the weekend I will record samples from all my Dingwalls (hopefully!!!)

I think that if each and every one of us uses the same Excel and add the info the same way, it will be very easy even for a Dingwall forum member to compile the database, before forwarding it to the webmaster. If it was made a Sticky then all of us would be able to track down any info whenever needed

I would be MORE than willing to do this for everyone. It certainly wouldn't help my DAS, but I'd love to get a better idea of what's out there!

A user-run registry is a great idea. Ernie Ball Musicman Man has a fan run registry with some history pages etc. We could at least keep track of forum users basses.

I will create the Excel that we can all record the data of our basses. Monday morning I will post the empty form as well as what I think should be included in every section. I am open to ideas. Please tell me if anything more (from what I said few posts back) should be included

Serial Number
Model (Prima, Z, AB I, ABII, Pre/Post fire),
Date
Body Woods (core woods, 2-3piece,front/back tops and accent venners)
Color
Finish (special notes),
Neck (woods and fingerboard),
Frets,
Headstock [Matching/black, tuners (brand, normal/ultralite/locking) Detuner(s)],
Pickups (type and position),
Electronics (Active/Passive/Both),
Special Notes (renovations, upgrades etc),
Pictures and
Owner(s)

Model should include number of strings and frets should include both number and type. This would also be easy to have Sheldon add all new creations daily. Maybe he could include a link to the registry in every case. That would certainly help us complete it.

Pre/post fire is covered by the serial number, as everything lower than 2030 is prefire.
Also, doesn't Sheldon already have some sort of catalog with a little info? I think I recall him giving info on stuff about older dingwalls. If it's in computerised form then I think we should start there - it definitely doesn't have that much info, but if we could have a catalog with 2 or 3 of these sections filled in we could add the additional info on our basses.

Hey, I just noticed that photos #9 and # 26 in Frank's collection are both mine.

#9 is the store photo of my trusty ABI at Bass Central before I bought it and did the mods to it.

#26 is the ebay photo of the ABII sixer I sold a couple years back. My friend's groovy green couch is in the background. :)

How about the retailer/where the owner bought the bass?
