Jjango has been helping us visualize some funky colors for the SJ5. Some are pretty mainstream, some are completely whack (like Sex Pistols Burst). They're all really fun though. Rather than post the whole lot at once, I'll post one per day to give you guys a chance to comment on them individually.

Here's a non-traditional, but not to far-out blue combination.

That's quite nice. I can see it with white pearl blocks and a white pearloid pickguard.

That would be cool, the Nathan East model.

I posted this what-if long ago - the acrylic SJ. It's just a black one with the color inverted. That's the limit of my photo editing skills. :( Kinda looks like the Satch crome Ibanez, as well. I'd like to see somebody work up a proper rendition of those. Mark

Chrome would be neat. I found some paint that can pull it off, the only problem being the nearly 100% chance of a dust spec.

They had a couple of chrome finished Warwicks at a local retailer and they sat there for a long long time. I actually think there's still one there... And they really show all the fingerprints.

Well, I guess these are not really made to sell like hot cakes - IMO they are made more to draw attention to the brand, even if the potential customer walks away with one more traditional looking.

I just needed to get this one out of my system. It's called Sex Pistols burst.

[quote="Sheldon Dingwall":12i5qcur]I just needed to get this one out of my system. It's called Sex Pistols burst.[/quote:12i5qcur] Oh, my. Oh, I don't know...Sex Pistols Vomit Burst, maybe? Yes, get it out. Do you need a cold rag for your forehead? Too much happening on this one for me - I'd lose the red pickguard and rear-rout this one, then maybe - but let's say somebody [i:12i5qcur]really[/i:12i5qcur] wanted one like that and had no problem with the cost of such a finish... you would do it, right? :) Mark

Otherwise it would be neon pink and bright yellow like the original record... I like it...I'd like it better with a cut&paste patchwork pickguard though!

Sex Pistols Burst :? :? :? It's unique, but nothing I'd lust after (unless it was delivered to my doorstep  )

You have out done yourself!! I would call Elton John immediately! I'm sure he will take 5 ASAP. I agree get it out of your system and move on. I'm still deciding on my Z3 color and I was going to leave it up to you Sheldon but now I'm not so sure? HA!HA! David

Because I recognized early on, the surrealistic side of Sheldon's color-ful ideas    , that's why I've always asked for clear tops  Having said that, I never looked in the neck pocket to see what lurks there  Joking aside, it really takes some nerve (in a nice way, not in an arrogant way) to come up and present sth like Sex Pistols Burst (even photoshop-ed) [it sort os reminds me of the Ritter "Birthday" Roya]

Huh. I welcome it. I think it's really fun and the stodgy 'wood only' thing is so uptight to me. I really like the depth and intensity of the Dingwall colors and also like the way that the shop has made them work with transparency. That's one of the reasons I chose a colorful finish with very 'active' top-wood for my Z. One of my ideas would be to commission a Z and say 'this is the sound I'm after'...you pick the woods and finish and just see what comes out!
