[quote="dsokoll":2hruzt0e]Sheldon,
I would like to darken up the fingerboard on the Z2 i just received. Can i stain it? or what would i need to do to darken it up?
Thanks,
Doug[/quote:2hruzt0e]
Hi Doug,
Wenge darkens with age. We use boiled linseed oil which also darkens over time. I'd recommend just using that and allowing it to darken naturally.
Staining would be difficult without staining the inlays and maple. We don't dye fingerboards for this reason. If you'd like to try here's what companies like PRS and Gibson use. It's the Professional Oil Dye

Wenge will also darken with strong amonia solution like that found in oven cleaner. We've tested this and it does darken things up but it winds up looking pretty muddy. I'm not sure what this would do to the glue in the fret slots either. For this reason I don't recommend this at all.
