Nice one!

I remember watching that one while the auction was happening. I really like the color...a bit lighter than 'tiger's eye' but really pretty.

How are you growing into it?

could anyone here give really simplified instructions on how to post pics? I've got some pretty cool photos of an afterburner II in various stages of destruction...

Well, I'm going back to school, so friday was my official last day of work at the dingwall shop... (although I'm going in for a few hours today to take care of a few loose ends and such) I had all the guys over for a farewell bonfire... after a speech and a few barley enhanced beverages sheldon threw some wood on the fire... (it was a reject)

I think it may have been a warning... the next one could be my as yet unfinished prima artist...

Have a great day!!!

ah yes...nothing like sitting around the campfire, drinking a few beers and burning a Dingwall bass.

Great success in school Jeff (are you #1 or #2?), thanks for whatever contribution you made to SuperJ#1

Figured I'd add a few more.....
first up.....
1)-remember this one Sheldon?- the Pre-pre-prototype of the SuperJ. May I ask who has this bass? It has some sort of custom pickups correct?
2)- 74inches of pure dingwall B string. Dingwall ABI-#042 old skool, single piece maple neck, Bart p'ups
3)- Little miss, little miss can't be wrong. Just Mark trying to figure out how to play the thing..hes a lefty

Dig that mobility boot sheldon..just think 10yrs ago you would have been casted

 AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!! How could one commit such high-end bass bloodshed as this??? You could have at least scorched the body to get the blackened/ash look, clear-coated it and sold it as an ABII nicknamed the Phoenix. Sheesh!!

regarding the burning of the bass: It was an older ABII that suffered from a mis-jigging or possibly a CNC calculation failure... Anyways, the body was unnusable. It actually took a heck of a lot longer to burn than I thought it wood...

I am (and always will be) Jeff #1. (so my responsibilities on the SuperJ included making the pickups, shielding the cavity and body assembly... (except that in this case, Jeff #2 did the electronics package)

school: I shall be attending a local seminary in the city here for 2 years and then heading down to Elkhart Indianna for two years to finish my studies there... This fall I'll be studying Nt Greek, Ethics, and the Hebrew Scriptures...

It will be very sad for me to go... over the years that I have been with Sheldon I have learned alot and had a lot of great opportunities come my way... never in a million years did I think when I started my first guitar project that my road would take me through a luthiery school and into sheldons shop... even after starting with sheldon, I never would have guessed that I'd ever heave the chance to learn about pickup design and manufacturing. It has been a wild and crazy ride (I actually wrote a speech about this and delivered it at the campfire, but it contained a fair amount of profanity and as such is probably not suited for web publication!)

with two children (and hopefully three more if my wife doesn't have anything to say about it) as well as other things happening in my life it just seems like the right time to move on and go to the next level...

I've got a quilt ABI 5 string on the way as well as a figured crotch walnut prima artist... I'll post pictures as they arrive.

good luck and god bless.

this is the body for my Afterburner I 5 string... it is super super light and I heard it today for the first time after stringing it up... It sounds awesome!!! deep and rich, as well as really snappy. Probably due to its super light weight. Still waiting on Sheldon to due the setup, but I'm planning on taking it home tomorrow!!!

Hi Frank,

That bass belongs to Mike Brignardello. The pickups were custom made by Kevin Beller at Seymour Duncan/Basslines. I'm going to try and get Mike involved with the 5-string Super J.

...With a 74 inch B, you'd need pretty long arms!

That quilted body is very nice!

You don't see many ABI's with quilt...Its a bit more subtle than some of those super lumpy looking quilts.

Now if I could only find a AB in that cool metallic yellow green...

Burning- I don't think Dingwall offers the AB w/ Quilt tops, just flame maple.
The bass is a ONE-OFF for JMK, remember he works there.
JMK-do you have any photos of that othe rone-off you made? didn't you have a Z1 that had a interesting top, or was it a Ab as well?

I used to have quite a few photos of that bass, but unfortunately they did not get onto a cd before my hd crashed... it was a beauty! back in those days we did not offer clear Afterburners, and the only Walnut that we used was on Primas... so my bass had a super awesome flame top on a walnut body that had a lot of figure... with a clear finish it had some really awesome contrast and looked great... it was a four string ABI with an OBP1 preamp...

gotta go... jmk
