I'm toying with the idea of converting my AB1 to fretless when I get my new Z3. Wondering whether I can buy a fretless AB1 neck from Dingwall, and if so, what the cost would be. Thanks, adam

At least one other person here has done that already, so it should be technically possible. as for pricing, absolutely no clue. :)

Absolutely can be done...I have done so with good results. I bought a 'left over' neck that matched nicely. They're making new ones now with wenge and ebony, I think. I'm sure Dingwall Sales will get back to you on cost. Yes, Dingwall Sales did respond quickly to me. I'm still somewhat considering it, but... I think I'm going to let my NS Design EUB be my fretless ax for the foreseeable future. That and the new Z3 are going to make me a very satisfied bassist, I think.

Adam, I guess it depends on the style of music that you play. I have an NS Design NXT5 EUB, and it is great as a substitute for an upright, but I cannot get the fretless bass guitar sounds that we know and love. Good luck.

Hi, Frank. Yeah, it's a different thing. Farther from a fretted electric, and that's what I love about it. I play it in all three of my bands, whenever we're leaning jazz, or folk, or classical, or even sometimes (but not always) country. If I ever go in for a fretless electric again, though, I will go Dingwall. Incidentally, I have the CRM (Czech made with both magnetic and piezo) model, and it's just astonishing the range of tones I can get on it. It's the only other instrument I've owned that has the absurdly perfect build quality my Dingwalls have. As we all know, that's sayin' somethin'.
