Sheldon-

Just thought I'd ask about those upgrades for the ABII to convert the treble controls to active+passive. What's the expected availability date?

Thanks

I have one in my ABII-5 so I would say they are available.

Really? If it's true, I'd like to order one right now.

When did you get yours? Did you install it yourself? What is involved?

I got my ABII-5 about 2 or 3 months ago. Luckily I found out it was available right before it was done and I had Sheldon add it.

It works in passive mode but needs an active battery to function. It's really nice to subtlely roll out the highs.

Very cool to have. I believe it's the same curcuit that's used in the SJ's.

If Sheldon dosen't sell them direct, contact Terry at Cabs Unlimited. His contact is T4Bass@aol.com.

Thanks for the info.

Maybe what you have is not the upgrade kit for older ABIIs but one of the first ABIIs with the new circuit, which is now standard. Sheldon can tell us for sure.

Sheldon, is there a physical difference between the hybrid control upgrade kit and the hybrid control that comes built in to the new ABIIs?

I was told by Dingwall Sales over the phone that they had to hold off on the upgrade version of this mod until it was better documented. Indeed it is essentially the same circuit that is now coming on new ABII's, but they intend to package it as a seperate upgrade package for older ABII's too.

They've been available since at least May '06.

Yes that was my thread. I've already exchanged emails, been quoted a price, etc., but when it came time to place the order, I called and Dingwall Sales said Sheldon had to back-pedal a bit. They weren't comfortable sending it out without more documentation.

It's the documentation that's holding us back. A clean install is fairly straight forward. A retrofit requires a lot of extended leads and re-routing of signal and power wires.

If we can get 10 people interested, I'll be able to take Jeff and myself offline to make it happen.

I highly recommend the hybrid treble.
If my ears hear correctly, it gradually tapers off until the last 15-20%, then it really cuts the treble.

I was under the impression when I first got my bass that it had to be in active mode for the passive cut to work but actually it works in passive mode too. [i:1rqf1iiu][color=blue:1rqf1iiu]BRILLIANT[/color:1rqf1iiu][/i:1rqf1iiu]

Even in active mode it's actually cutting treble passively.

Is it possible to tear out just the electronics and send it in to have you guys do the servicing? What would that cost?

Or perhaps could you just sell a whole new OBP-1 with the new mod included?

Jeff sat down and wrote up an instruction sheet yesterday. We'll be able to have a complete package next week. Pricing will be finalized then too.

Do you guys have the kit and pricing ready for the ABII upgrade? How can I order one?

Thanks

Ditto for me. I would even consider a whole new electronics package, then I could use the old one in another bass. :)
