Hi Guys, I'm going to be doing a workshop at Axe Music in Calgary later in the summer. I'd like to start preparing now. I could use some ideas for topics you'd like to see covered if you were to attend (not possible for most of you I know). Thanks. Sheldon

[quote="Sheldon Dingwall":2vrzhywb]Thanks to all that came out. What a great bunch of guys. Lot's of thought provoking questions. Nic, great as always to see you again. The event was sold out and was a lot of fun. I don't think there was any video, but the guys at Axe took a boatload of photos. They'll likely post a link here: http://www.axemusic.com/community_events.asp Tonight I head to China to inspect the first run of Combustions. I'll upload photos as soon as I get a connection.[/quote:2vrzhywb] Sheldon Great to see you too, your frank and passionate desciptions of why and how you build your basses as you do served to re-engage me with that wonderful SJ5 you built for me, thank you sir. Enjoy China, I am sure it will be quite the experience! And good luck with those Combustions I know of plenty of folk keen to get there hands on one :D Once the Combustions are safely in the stores and selling like hotcakes I will send you a few photos of the Ducati that has inspired me to start working toward getting a super fast Z2 on the order books! Regards Nic

The clinic is Scheduled for Sept 17th at 6:30 PM. Bring your basses and we'll have a show and shine. Dingwall Sales will have some new and cool EA gear to demo as well.

I too would like to hear about the process of designing and improving the Combustion over the months. What were the setbacks, how were they solved, what was too costly/turned up good enough, etc..

I would be fascinated to hear about neck construction, what is the difference between 1 piece and 5 piece, what does quarter sawn mean, how does a truss rod work, how does the type of wood in the neck (and fingerboard) effect tone, how are fretless necks different, what have you learned about neck construction over the years, what does the future hold N

At the last Axe workshop in Calgary, you touched on your theories and opinions on construction, woods, tone and the fanned fret design. How about expanding upon this by speaking about your design and manufacturing process and philosophies? You could use the Combustion as an example as this is the newest Dingwall model to come to fruition. Many of us followed its development on the forum and I think that it would be interesting to hear a more detailed and in-depth look into what goes into designing and producing a new Dingwall model. I'd also like to hear what ideas are on the drawing board.

I think that all the above mentioned ideas are great. The only thing to add IMHO,and would be of great benefit, if you had a Z1 and an AB II in hand to allow the attendees the hands-on tonal experience of two different construction/woods/design (yet same fanning) basses proving (even to the most difficult people) that Dingwalls HAVE consistent, balanced yet different tones.
