Rich,
Where are you at friend? Overnight from Canada to the states is going to be EXPENSIVE. I might be wrong about this, but I think Dingwall sells them in sets of five as well. If you are in a bind PM me and I will sell you one of my spare sets. Off the top of my head you should be able to buy them from Jive Sound or Guitar X and have them overnighted.[/quote:2vscetrm]
Both GuitarX and Blueberry Hill are both out. Jive Sound hasn't gotten back to me yet. At this point I would gladly take a set of 5 if it is going to be this hard to find them in the future.
Thanks for the offer of selling me one of your spare sets. I don't think it will be necessary. I wanted to have some new strings for an upcoming show I have this weekend, but I think I'll be all right. The strings that are on there are extremely dead, but I guess playable. I also have a back up bass (non-Dingwall) that I can use if a string breaks.[/quote:2vscetrm]
Rich, it's not just an old wives tale, have you ever tried boiling strings? To get one more month out of a set I take mine off, boil them in water with a drop of dawn, rinse, boil in clean water, rinse, dry and you get a plausibly "new" sound for another gig or two. IME, YMMV.
Bass Central may have a set as well, I forgot about them.
+1 on Dingwall owners, I've yet to meet or chat with a bad one! Bass players as a breed tend to be nicer people, go figure.
