Say Sheldon, What's your take on these? I think a coco top and fretboard would look killer together, especially on a walnut body and neck, as would the same combination in wenge. Would any structural or tonal issues arise? Thank you!

I agree that would look pretty awesome especially if they matched well. We've done Coco tops in the past and decided that as beautiful as they are they cause too many problems with production. We've discontinued the wood entirely. We have done Wenge tops. They haven't been popular but can look pretty cool especially when bleached.

Well, the dust is toxic, for one. It is a very oily wood, making glue joints difficult. It also can gum up tools and sandpaper, and it can be difficult to finish because of the high oil content. I have to wonder how other builders deal with these problems. I had dreams of having a cocobolo-topped Dingwall someday....alas, looks like that won't happen. :( Fanned fret Alembic? Maybe. Mark
