Hey, Just got back home from having finished the last assignment of this quarter. Feeling good after a long time, yet wondering what to do :) So here's a video. [url:2oi4dgcl]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2HLyTMAids[/url:2oi4dgcl] I'd like to do many more, I have a few songs in mind, but we'll see how it goes. This song is an easy one and still I was lagging behind or rushing ahead more then otherwise. Oh well :) Hope you like the sound. Pretty MusicMan-like. Pickups in parallel, preamp in a slight scoop, recorded through the GT-10B "Man of the Music" preset and with Payson's Stainless Steel strings after they've been played for a while. And please give comments or tips on how to mix, how to position the camera, on copyright issues etc. I recorded the video & bass audio in one take then added the music afterwards; kinda got them aligned to one another but it's a boring process. Is it possible to avoid that process with Windows Movie Maker (or some other Win or Linux based tool? Tried a bunch of open source ones a few weeks back, sad results every time) - Bo

Bocete in da house laying down the groove! I really like it :) As far as the process of recording video and audio, what you do is probably the best way, unless you plug the bass to the camera. I do the same thing for my videos as you do. YouTube will instantly send you a message if you use any song under copyright by major labels. A couple of my videos are blocked in some countries for example.

I like it Bo! It doesn't look like you have lost anything with all of that studying...

Thanks for the kind words :) I've been trying to get YYZ down properly since January, but guess what, irregular bursts of practice till my hands hurt didn't work :) Very slowly and sloppily getting there, but all that studying has certainly taken it's toll. I cannot fit practicing into my daily schedule mainly because the schedule is "work till I drop". This song is pretty easy, ostinato defined. A fun and a great song of course, I enjoy playing along to it, but still something you can pick up after not having played bass for weeks and get it right after a few minutes.

Good job Bocette. That sounds awesome, shaking stuff on my desk with that bottom end. Great video for anyone who wants to know what a Combustion can sound like. Thanks for the post and good luck with your studies.

One more, fretless AB-II this time. Playing this was very fun. [url:32umtijh]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrbX-kQ8esE[/url:32umtijh]

My shot at Spirit of the Radio by Rush. [url:1mjegese]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRL64CJJR_sp[/url:1mjegese] Spring break was coming to an end, and I pledged to myself that I'll get this song down. Quite close but not there yet; still, a new quarter starts tomorrow and I don't think I'll have the time to get it much better. Better to say I've followed the deadline with a kinda-decent take.

Thanks! I always make everything visible from everywhere. However, the copyrighted music playing in the background forbids playing on mobile or TV. Nothing I can do about that.

Sounds good to me! Are you using a SansAmp to get the grit?

[quote="Smallmouth_Bass":2hfpbiqo]Sounds good to me! Are you using a SansAmp to get the grit?[/quote:2hfpbiqo] Nope, just the GT-10B via USB. Some overdrive and amp sim were on, not sure which ones, that was a preset, I can look it up.. I think it was the preamp on the bass that shaped most of the sound, as tweaking it made or break it. I found a high mid frequency that I liked and I liked it so much I boosted it by ~80-90%, and then cut some highs to reduce the clank. Kinda just stumbled upon the sound. Were my fingers more rested the sound would be even better; plucking as hard as makes sense with those settings really approaches the Geddy sound... The problem is my stamina, after a few minutes all consistency is off, I start falling behind like I wonderfully did at the end of that video... but I'll get there in time :) My general plan is to continue on recording songs with different feels to them, and the processor really can help me achieve next to any sound I like. The only one that eluded me was Entwistle's electric guitar-like distortion which sounds kinda.. digital in lack of a better term. But it's versatile and sounds very good to my ears, enough to make me pursue a preamp-less rig; processor -> power amp and that's it.

Now that I've seen it, excellent work! I've been working on mastering Freewill, now I'm tempted to try Spirit instead. :)

Thanks :) I was so tired that day, exhausted. I just crashed to deep sleep instantly after uploading it. The thing is, I didn't bother watching the recording at all. Second take, in my head I was ROCKING IT! It was so good, I had so much fun. I watched it the morning after, and oh god
