My church is willing to invest in a back line so we in the band don't have to hurt ourselves moving equipment. That's great. But I've been very happy with my equipment for quite a while, so I really don't know what's out there in the church's price range. So I'm looking for advice. Let's say we want to spend around $6-700 (yeah, I know), and get a combo amp somewhat along the lines of the discontinued Eden RS210... that is, 300ish watts, smaller speakers, cleanish (uncolored) tone. I'm a Phil Jones guy these days, so that's my sound bias, and I realize I'm not going to get that quality for this kind of money, but I'm curious what's out there. Also, if any of you know of a store that likes to do good deals for churches, that would be good info as well. Thanks, adam

I don't know what size room you are playing, but my PJB Neo 8B filled the bill nicely for a congregation in the 250 range.

Thanks for the idea, Rollerberg. I've talked with Phil a few times, so heck, I went ahead and asked him. We'll see.

Depending on what your needs are (size of room/FOH support) I think good values can be had with the older "pro-level" SWR and Eden stuff. There seem to be a lot of 400-500w heads out there that need a good home and in general there's a lot of players out there looking to dump there non-neo 2x10 and 4x10 cabs which were pretty pricey in there day so some have been very well taken care of. The other thing to consider would be the ability to add on a cab sometime down the road if the budget allows.

You can get a nice used Markbass combo in that range and I've seen their 12" combo new as low as $700 at Guitar Center at one point. My church is a little smaller (seats 150 tops), but my Little Mark III ($400 used) and Traveller 102P ($350 used) fills the room. And it's not even turned up to half way. 8)
