We get several emails per day from customers wondering why it's taking so long to receive their Combustion or NG-2. Most have been very understanding and we thank you for that. The reality is that several things are adding up to extended wait times. In no particular order: 1. Orders have been 6X more than we projected. Solution: We've doubled every order, then doubled the frequency of orders. 2. It took a LONG time for the factory to meet our increased quality, fit and finish demands. Solution: Well, quality first, hopefully over time we'll get the speed up. I personally wouldn't want to be the customer who got a "lesser" bass because Dingwall was in too much of a hurry. 3. There is still much finessing to be done at the Canadian shop before the basses pass inspection and get shipped. Solution: we've been hiring and training new staff. This actually makes things move slower at first but will eventually result in less wait time for customers. The long term goal is to keep increasing quality, fit and finish at the factory end but that takes time. To sum up, we understand the anxiety the extended wait times are causing. We did and continue to do our best to predict when we can ship each bass. However when there are 50 - 100 basses that were ordered before yours we just ask that you understand that those 50-100 customers are just as anxious as you and that we are doing everything we can to make sure everyone gets the best bass we can deliver in the shortest amount of time. Thanks Sheldon

Well put Sheldon. To all those waiting I have ordered 6 Dingwalls over the years and waited 2 years for my Prima. It was tough but when it arrived in perfect condition as I had ordered it it was like I had it all along. It was so worth the wait. When your waiting one tends to think that the Dingwall folks are sitting around but believe me they are not. So sit back read the forum everyday to stay connected with Dingwall and your bass will be here before you know it!

One of the things I love about Dingwall is that it's not a high volume shop. The introduction of the wildly embraced Combustion line is showing the effect of introducing unanticipated log jams into an already high demand boutique dealer. I for one am ecstatic Sheldon insists on this high level of quality control, all the delay means is that I the end consumer will benefit from this extra attention to detail. Take your time on mine Sheldon. Do what you do so well, for all of us! Jeff

Well said, Jeff. I ordered my Z2 in September with an ETA of between 7 - 9 months. After the initial jitters I have calmed down and expect the wait to blow out considerably. And that is fine with me. It has inspired me to enrol in a bass-building course though so I can see what making one actually involves. I will stay sane, will receive an outstanding instrument when it is ready, AND will make a (hopefully high quality) instrument (somewhat Dingwall-inspired) myself. Win-win-win. Regards, Michael P.S.: Sheldon and team, keep doing what you do best, and why we all are happy to wait: build outstanding instruments of the highest quality!

... and that there was a very humble message from a very respectable Sheldon, the sort of post that tells you how it is and why. I can only take my hat to a statement like that, although I already knew the reason behind the wait, and when I was waiting for my Super J/P I knew exactly what to expect and I never once asked, nagged or expressed any frustration, because I knew what was cooking needed the time required and as you can all expect the result was spectacular, flawless and a bass that still almost 4 years from it's arrival date, plays and feels like a dream, and every bass players that has tried it was impressed by it, from prosumers to professionals they've all loved it. Thanks Sheldon for that continued happiness. Sheldon, is there a way we can find out what batch our order is placed with? All I know is that I ordered it on 12/8/2014 from Bass Northwest. I'm not sure if they just wait for a couple more and then batch order them, or if it's called in individually. I figured it'll be done when you guys get to a certain "wave" of yellows. Just curious if there's a generic group that I could help estimate. Not that I'm impatient, I'm actually pretty chill about it. When it comes, it comes :)

I ordered my NG2 in Ferrari Yellow on 1/1/15 and was told August/September time frame, so yours may be in that batch?

The turnaround time will get shorter eventually. Right now a good rule of thumb is 7-8 months from date of order.

Sorry to admit, I was one of those impatient customers Sheldon refers to above. I can tell those of you still waiting that it is worth it. The new Combustion gets very high marks from me. Build quality, final setup, fit and finish, all excellent. She turns a few heads as well.... Thanks SD!

Sheldon's post has to be one of the greatest post in a bass-related forums of all time. I mean, how often do you see the owner of a well regarded brand not only acknowledging the problems they're currently having on their production line, but also identifying the root causes of them and sharing the action they're taking to solve them? That's amazing. Textbook Problem Management example... :) Being one of those still waiting for a NG-2, I couldn't agree more with this sentence: [quote="Sheldon Dingwall":tb5bfdcj]I personally wouldn't want to be the customer who got a "lesser" bass because Dingwall was in too much of a hurry. [/quote:tb5bfdcj] After all, if you're getting 6X the expected amount of orders, if because you're doing an excelent job to begin with, and excelent tone and quality are atributes your customers get to expect every time they receive a long-awaited Dingwall. Thanks a lot for your post Sheldon...

What strings are stock on those new V4s? I just received mine, and they don't feel a bit like my DWSS strings.

Hi Stan, we've been installing our new nickels. Stainless will work too but the nickels have a smoother feel and don't mark up the frets as noticeably.

I'm glad I found the forum to elaborate on the situation. I'm one of those anxious customers, but I fully support your priorities and efforts here. Everything about what you're doing makes sense, and I wouldn't want to hear that you're doing it any other way. I would much rather wait patiently so that things can be done right to deliver the instrument that meets your standards instead of the instrument you rushed out as quickly as possible. By all means, take all the time you need. I placed my order about 6 months ago for a yellow NG-2, so with current estimates I'm hopefully it'll find its way home to me in the next 2 months or so. Since I'm here, I guess I'll ask to confirm- the NG-2 does not ship with a case/bag, is that correct? I know I'm going to want to take it around to show off, and I definitely want to make sure it's got proper protection.

I am a few days away from 8 months since order placed. Is 7-8 months still the estimate?

That's a relatively safe estimate if it was ordered direct from us. If it was ordered through a dealer, there's a second level of potential lag although most of our dealers are really good at getting orders in quickly.

Btw, is the pickup selector on the regular v4s set to Neck/Series/Para/Bridge?
