Let me see if I can understand the Dingwall line as far as rough pricing goes (I realize that with custom items, the lines can overlap somewhat): Combustion ABZ Afterburner 1 Z1 Super J Afterburner 2 Z2 Z3 Prima How close am I?

Prima > Z3 > Z1/Z2 > Super J > ABII > ABI > ABZ > Combustion I think.

It depends of how you spec it out, but yes, my Z was more than an ABII, by about 2x. Once you get past the AB series I think you can be in the same ballpark on the SJ and Z's. From there the Primas are the best of the best...

SJs < Zs. How about SJ5s? Aren't they significantly more expensive than SJs? What about SJ5 Custom Exotic and that other SJ5 upgrade (if there is one, I think there is?) compared to the Z series?

I don't know if the SJ5s are as customizable as the Z series basses, although there are some exotic top versions around. I think those were pre-ordered as limited run lines by specific retailers. My SJ5 was a bit more expensive (10%) than the previous SJ4 my retailer had. This could have also been due in part by general price increases as well as a slight up-charge for the extra string; I don't know.

There are too many variations of specs with the ABIIs and SJs - so they can go any order really.

It would hard to say that a SJ is better or not as good as a Z or AB model simply based on price, IMO anyway.

The SJ series are very different from the 'bread and butter' 34/37 Dingwall basses. And the reality is that Sheldon CAN build 'em anyway he wants!

Thanks to all for the input. I can definitely understand the SuperJ being in its own category.
