Sheldon, I just purchased a used ABI (serial #3485), and I was wondering if it's possible to get a little bit of biographical info regarding its construction and "date of birth." I'm mostly interested in what pickups are in it and other info about the electronics, but I'd be curious about wood types also. Thanks! DOB 10/8/2003 Neck - Maple Fingerboard - Wenge Body - Alder Pickups - No data on that one. There's a good chance you have FD-1 pickups but there's a slight chance you might have the ultra-rare FD2.9 pickups. The way to tell is if the tone is bright and hifi sounding you have FD-1 pickups. If the tone is bottom-heavy with just a little sparkle on top, you have FD2.9s. There's likely a bluEQube on the push/pull tone pot.

Thanks, Sheldon. I do have the bluEQube push/pull tone pot. And, based on your description, I think I have the FD-1 pickups. Regarding the fingerboard, the only other basses I've had sported rosewood fingerboards which I cleaned with lemon oil. Is lemon oil OK to use on the wenge fingerboard or is there something else I should use?

Lemon oil is fine. Just a few drops on a paper towel and rub it in.
