I saw this morning that Joe Zawinul has died at 75 from cancer. He was, of course, the leader of Weather Report. When Jaco first introduced himself to Joe he reportedly said, " Hello, Mr. Zawinul. My name is Jaco Pastorius and I'm the best bass player in the world". BTW, he got the job.

Zawinul was once quoted as saying, "Bass is the mother of all music, drums are the father". (I had mistakenly attributed that quote to Herbie Hancock in the past.)
