I just finished the NAMM Z3 prototype body. It will go into sanding and prep tomorrow. Trying to decide on the color now. The front runners are a really vibrant greenburst or blueburst. Feel free to cast your vote. All the best in the new year. Sheldon

[quote="FrankM":30qeuyap] May I ask why you didn't set the rear p'ups further back, as well as touching, like the Z2, and if i may ask what was the decision to place the neck p'up so rearward. Is this just an optical illusion based on your SJ-fatty p'ups being much smaller, are they still in the same harmonic spots as the Z1 and Z2 position frank[/quote:30qeuyap] The bridge pickups are lined up on the same harmonics as the Z2 coils would be. If they were touching, they'd be narrower than the stock Z2. The neck pickup is located in the same harmonic location as a stock Jazz. Blueburst was the front runner early on so we went with that. Now all I have to decide on is what shade of blue. Whalepool or the darker Stormy Monday.

This very Z3 is not mine but.... Now I can say a thing or two, once the Z3 is into materialization phase (lips were sealed till now 8) ) I've [b:cquhmdcf]ordered[/b:cquhmdcf] the first Z3 ever something like 2yrs+. Because it is the first one ever, it took some time to work out all details the best possible way (it's not just a Z1 + Z2 thing). All that work, mental and practical, had to fit in in a very hectic Dingwall schedule. Sheldon had couple of people leaving the shop, he had to find and train the new people and still be on time for all production deadlines (line production or custom pieces). Still he never gave up and kept everything to his high standards of perfection and respect that he has to himself and to his customers. Now, he is a breath away from delivering the first Z3. Mine still has couple of headache inducing ideas to materialize (how surprising!!! :o :o :o ) but I am in no rush to have anything delivered to me until Master Sheldon gives his nod of approval. I am really surprised that Sheldon is still answering my emails after all the headaches I've given him    . The truth of the matter is that I've arranged whenever I send him a "request" (idea), the email delivers painkillers too, so he is not taking it very hard in the head!!! From what I hear, Sheldon is preparing a team of neurosurgeons to remove all these "headache-inducing" ideas out of my head, in fear of what follows for the Prima Artist that I've ordered (that resonant piece of cork with huge lows, strong low mids and singing highs is still been marinated in that special Dingwall sauce for the next couple of years. it's probably the fumes that cause the headaches, not my ideas :P :P :P ) Thank you Sheldon once again for all your time, effort and problem solving. Thank you Dingwall Sales for all the help too (can you please now ask these neurosurgeons to set me free???) :P :P :P

I only wish, my friend. You've mis-understood me. One order at a time is my limit for right now. I have my 'special' Z-1 coming sometime soon and that's it. I would guess that Sheldon has a few high rollers on the call list for such new instruments.

On the other hand, I can always give shelter to a homeless Dingwall (esp if it's a rare bird)

He is on track to get the first Z3. I must confess that I recently changed my Z2 order to a Z3. I don't know if it will be the second one, or the third one, but it's coming, anyway. It still will be the 3 color sunburst with a matching headstock, boring to some, but I have an attraction to that color scheme lately. I just hope that Fullies "headache-inducing ideas" don't hold mine up too long. I [i:112xhbaq][b:112xhbaq]am[/b:112xhbaq][/i:112xhbaq] in a rush to get mine! Mark

Yes I did buy it. I'm thrilled if the Z3 is Fullie's idea because it is brilliant! I keep going back between a Z2 Artist and Prima Artist with my sounds so this may bridge the gap for a lot of performance stuff for me.

I am humbled, and I am happy this beautiful Z3 has already found a great home. If it were not for Sheldon to have come up with the Prima, the Z1 and the Z2, I would have not thought ofthe Z3 and it would have never become a reality. The truth is that when I ordered the Z3 I never ever have held a Z2 in my hands but having faith in Sheldon's work I was sure for the outcome. Now that I have held the Z2 as well, I am 1000% confident of the Z3. TwoPort will fill us in with all details before mine arrives.

Awesome news on the first Z3 going to a good home. I hope its gets lots of playing time But we gotta ask Sheldon about when the idea of a 3 pickup Z bass was concieved. This has been an idea that he and I were kicking around for a few yrs when we were discussing my new Dingwall. Not that it matters, since all of us benefit from each other ideas.
