We've got a nice run of Z's going at the moment. Another one to start soon. Some of you may recognize these bodies already.

SPECTACULAR!! The Rastaburst is simply amazing! Congratulations, BurningSkies!! Maybe not the bass for everyone, but it's so cool to see something completely new in the custom bass world. This one is probably the most cutting edge I've seen in years designwise, especially the inlays.. Is that a yellow stain I see on the fingerboard, or is this phototrickery? :o

Amazing finish! This one trumps the Snotburst as far as being out-there, IMO. It looks like Jello salad. Congrats. Mark

I know that when I got my AB, I went through a 6 month period of playing it about 4 hours a day before dropping back into my regular practice and rehearsal schedule...So I would guess this will be the same. I believe that I'll have to 'sneak' time late at night though, as my girlfriend will start getting jealous otherwise! I think what you're seeing on the neck is probably a reflection...it's got inlays and that's about it. Sheldon had worked on another neck feature for a while, but the logistics of the idea didn't work as hoped. Maybe we'll see it on a future Dingwall if the bugs get worked out! Until that time, the cat will stay in the bag...

Mark[/quote:2s1bfsvr] You know, I sort of think of this in the same ballpark as the 'Snotburst'. That bass has been in my photofile on my work and home computers since they were first posted, and it's been in the back of my mind. Heh. When I first got my Afterburner, my guitarist (of ten years plus!) freaked out because it's not traditional looking and he hated it for that and for the 'flash' factor. We'll see how this one runs...(actually he's now seen pictures). Turns out I like a fair amount of flash.

I solo all night long. I'm the loudest instrument in the band, and sound men sometimes have a hard time understanding that I'm the 'lead' instrument.

Whoa! The blocks might require some getting used to, but I love the way the colours flow from the body to the inlays and the headstock. Something tells me that there's going to be some big reggae grooves coming soon!

It's great, but I'm not fond of a maple board with a matching headstock. With a wenge board I would gig that even in my thrashmetal band! The finisch is simply awesome and I love the inlays.

[quote="Uncle Balsamic":2djsh1xo]Wow! That looks so good as a whole bass. I particularly love the inlays! Enjoy that bass when you get it![/quote:2djsh1xo] The inlays were Sheldon's idea, and came along well before the release of any of the 70's style Super-J basses. I really liked the idea, because from the start I really wanted to 'tie' all of the parts of the bass together, and this does it perfectly. The 5 and 12 positioning of the blocks was my thought. I really would have been happy with an unmarked maple neck and thought it would be a good way to balance the action of the top wood, finish and headstock, but it became apparent by me playing my AB, that I need some markings in some live band situations where other may need some visual guidance. The two blocks are effective and also minimal in that regard.

Right...now we are only missing the two Z2s and the lonely Z3 from this batch(in comparison to the previous batch, has the novelty of the Z3 worn off??). I find myself very interested in the no-top Z2 with Fatties from Sheldons original group shot..

The eagle has landed... Sheldon has officially made me the most beautiful bass ever! No time to play today, as its crazy at work, but I'll be playing with my favorite drummer tonight and I'll report back!
