We moved the 21st fret marker down toward the G string about 3/16" or so. That made the above the 12th fret arc more proportionate/symmetrical to the larger arc below the 12th fret.

I'm mostly experimenting by running straight into a Bergantino IP112 -- no pre. I can say this for sure, the B string is incredible. The Phatties simply sound fantastic. I don't think anybody could go wrong with any of the Dingwall pickup offerings. I'll be doing some recording later tonight so that will be a good exercise for dialing in the thick, woolly tone I like so much. I don't think there will be any problem doing that with these pups and the series/par options.

How do the Phatties compare to MII's? Vintage wool?

The motivation for this color scheme was autumn colors, mainly the deep red and the yellow/amber of leaves as they change. The neck is fantastic and already feels like an old friend. And, best of all, the tone and variety of tones are amazing. I'll get some pics up before too long that show this masterpiece of Sheldon and Jeff's off as much as my photographic skills (or lack thereof) may allow. Thanks again Sheldon and Jeff for a great experience and a great instrument. And thanks to everyone on the forum for sharing ideas, many of which went into the planning of my Z. John

One for Sheldon - have you ever done a Zebrawood top on a Z2/Z3? Mmmm.... Although some of those spalted maple tops look virtually as good, so there's alternatives... Waiting for the exchange rate to go up a bit more... EG

Man, that's some sweet bass-porn there, where can I get me one of dem basses without waiting too long? :p I have to admit I've been re-assessing my (meagre) bass collection and even thought about parting with the ABII, but now I think that's actually a good move as long as it's replaced by a Z2 or Z3! So yes, where are the sound-clips from existing Z2/Z3 Fatties owners? I still have no idea what they actually sound like! I generally want a bit more voice and character than my existing FD-3s, so maybe that's the ticket? As an aside, a friend of mine brought his vintage Ken Smith around and the ABII wasn't *that* much different in sound, just slightly behind in sweetness and old-school vibe. Not bad, given the Smith has matured nicely over the years and is probably worth twice as much! EG
