We've got a nice run of Z's going at the moment. Another one to start soon.

Some of you may recognize these bodies already.

Hi Jj. I don't remember requesting the current rendition, although it's great to see all these possible combos.

Before you came along with all your wonderful Photoshop work, I had used drawings that Sheldon had posted to lay out an Z-FD-3. It didn't bother me that there was so much pickup on the bass, but that particular bass hasn't been rendered, yet. Just for curiosity and completeness, here's what would be neat to see: 1) an FD loaded Z3 (basically a Z2 with the front pickup added where in would be on a Z1) and 2) a Z3 with two FDs at the bridge position w/ a Fatty in the neck position.

I can't imagine there would be many other pickup combos worth gawking at than those.

When doing the MachII Z3 Jango can you do a version 22 fret version with all 3 pu's touching each other?

As the pickup titles still kind of confuse me, could you walk me through this?

#1 means like this? These back pickups...

... combined with the front pickup from this one?

[img:qyoevvvx]http://www.dingwallguitars.com/images/img_z1.jpg[/img:qyoevvvx]

Are those FDs on both basses?

Here's a crazy one...all three pickups hidden inside a matching grain ramp!

Hey man, as I'm the one who created this mess: thanks for your time first of all. Second, I think you're a bit confused by the fact that Sheldon recently made some Z2s with fatties, which is what your picture shows (two fatties at the bridge, one FD-3 at the neck position). I'd like to see one with two FD-3s at the bridge and one FD-3 at the neck position. After fooling around a bit with it on paint, I think it miiiight be possible if you move the neck FD-3 a bit more towards the neck.

For those that can't decide, how about a Z-bass with a Fatty and FD-3 at the bridge (touching) and the same in the mid position? Then you could choose either the Fatty sound or the FD-3 sound, or a combination of both! :)

And yes, it might just look damn ugly, as the Fatties are longer.

But the "fatties" are so... thin!

Thanks guys, I've labeled and saved these pictures now for future reference.

Okay guys, I [i:1kfc84lk]think[/i:1kfc84lk] I have this right:

Maybe just fill the entire space between bridge and neck with pickups? :D From the bridge forward, I'd like a Fatty, an FD, a P pickup and then another Fatty and another FD. :D :D :D :D Yes, I'm kidding.

One thing we haven't talked about is the limitation on the number of pickups one can have simply beccause of the magnetic pull those pickups have on the strings. I was even wondering if 3 was too many, but Sheldon is making them, so I guess the tension of the strings is enough to make it work. An instrument can be hard to keep in tune and the resonance of the strings can be adversely affected by too much magnetiism.

Jj, thanks for the last couple of renderings. They show well what a bunch of FDs look like on one bass.

The triple FD Z3 looks better than I thought. It's not actually too busy.

It's been a while since I've posted any updates. The run got divided up finish-wise for flow reasons - waiting on pickups and necks to catch up.

The green/teal burst was originally going to be a linear with completely different colors, but the customer changed their mind on the color (better choice IMO) and the wood suggested that the linearburst be turned 45 degrees or so. I came up with the re-bursted edge concept while longboarding (Yay, I get to write off the trip).

The lotus flower inlay really compliments the color. It was the most challenging inlay to date.
