I have the 3-bass version of the Hercules stand and have no problem with any of my Dingwall basses hitting the tripod bottom. None of my basses have Hipshot D-tuners, so I cannot comment on how well the Hercules stands would work in that situation.

On it, the body of the bass is supposed to rest against the two front legs of the stand. It's got sufficient length for my AB-II, without a de-tuner. I use a hercules wall mount on my combustion, its the same hanger as the tripod, and it works, but the fold down arms on closing touch the string hold down a bit.

It's more the shape of the SJ headstock that puts the Drop D at an odd angle.
