i've had the original strings on for a while now, and am beginning to think it might be time to put a new set on. where's the easiest place to look/go to to find strings that would fit a super j? i like the sound of the super j with the original strings on it, but i would not be adverse to trying something new.

does dingwall sell string sets? i don't see that they do on this web site. i have a feeling that i am missing their strings sales section? is it located in the forums?

i guess the real question i have is what scale length do i need to get? i know the E string is regular scale (34") and the G string is something like 32". so could i just get a regular scale length set?

have always kind of wanted to try flat wounds (never played anything with flat wounds on). i sort of gather that flat wounds are more traditionally for semi-hollow and hollow body basses. but does anyone have any experience or opinions about whether flat wounds on a 4 string super j would sound coo.

finally, any suggestions, helpful hints?

thanks.

Any long scale strings should fit the SuperJ and SuperP series basses. My SuperJ5 came with DR Lowriders and that is what I continue to use. My SuperP5 came with Dingwall strings.

Dingwall have their own branded strings that you can order direct which can be found here:

I haven't tried flatwounds on my Dingwalls yet.

Yes, you can use standard strings on the Super J. There is mention in the forums here about the default strings which I believe were GHS M5200. I have a Super P/J which I have Thomastik Infeld flats on and I love it. I like a rounder smoother tone. I also love the feel. Of course, my Super P/J has mandolin frets, so that might be part of the feel as well.
