Hi all - I don't post much, but wanted to get your input - pros/cons - of unbolting the neck of my ABZ5 and packing the neck and body separately to avoid airline damage. Will it be problematic to reassemble when I get to Bass Fest in New Hampshire. As I see it the options are: - Take it to the airport assembled in my Dingwall gigbag and risk being forced to check it. - Ship it FedEx in advance - Buy a ATA style case - Take it apart and pack it as a carry on What are your thoughts? The latter sounds the simpliest if disassembly and reassembly won't be an issue. Any guidance welcome and appreciated. Thanks, Denys (aka loungesurfer)

Chances are that even if you "split it" you might have to check it in. Best thing to do is to purchase a heavy duty flight case. FedEx-ing it back and forth, will probably cost you more than the price of the flight case and it's money down the drain, when you consider that if you get a flight case that would be an investement that you get to keep for the next time you need to fly.

I concur with GW. The airline should be able to provide you with allowable carry on dimensions. But I, too, have a feeling that a properly packed neck will exceed the limit. Whatever you do, DO NOT try to transport it in a gig bag. Good luck.

Thanks for the honest replies. I decided to purchase a ATA type case. Denys (aka loungesurfer)
