Jjango has been helping us visualize some funky colors for the SJ5. Some are pretty mainstream, some are completely whack (like Sex Pistols Burst). They're all really fun though. Rather than post the whole lot at once, I'll post one per day to give you guys a chance to comment on them individually.
I like that last one. Keep them coming. Could we have some examples on the new prototype body...please?[/quote:3q407tp0] Hi folks! I've been away with an [u:3q407tp0]AWFUL[/u:3q407tp0] flu, so if I haven't responded to a PM... I will! AK Rev, I think Sheldon is only considering the "Out There" finishes for the SJ5, at least that has been my understanding.

It sort of looks and feels like "effervescent" and I like it, if you know what I mean. Oh, you don't know.... neither do I....

It's like a fire burst! That's the nicest one out of the extreme finishes so far.

I think that this is a very nice combo. Its more traditional than it may seem at first, but with the vertical burst. Any ideas of doing horizontal bursts like you've done for Z series basses?
Back to a little more "in your face" for today.[/quote:wp0beshs] Now, that I like a lot. I'd like to see what blue with red trim looks like. Back in the 60s and 70s, in the states anyway, option choices from the auto manufacturers had run so far amok that you could order a blue car with red interior. Not many people did, and it wasn't necessarily eye-pleasing when you first saw it, but man, did it pop. BTW, you can still buy a new car today and get blue with red guts- BMW offers this. I also remember once seeing a Buick GS that was black with a pale yellow interior. I'd love to see a black SJ with pale yellow trim, too. This is fun - keep 'em coming! Mark

Have you ever heard this one: "Blue and green should never been seen, except for in a washing machine!" That being said, I like blue and green together. If the pickguard were a darker green, it would be cool. I'm not sure I like the blocks green, but they'd look good in black with the blue/green colour scheme. Have you ever considered painting the headstock scoop to match the pickguard or blocks or something?

I like that one, too! Nice balance of colors with the body, the fret board and the block inlays.

For some reason I really like this one. I love chocolate covered cherries. Maybe that's why? I could see this one in my heard (it's a small heard). After my Z3 of course.
I apologize for that last one. Here's one that will give your eyes a break.[/quote:1ra6sbxi] The first thing I thought of when I saw this one was "chocolate-covered cherry". I hate those, but I love the bass. Mark

Huh. I welcome it. I think it's really fun and the stodgy 'wood only' thing is so uptight to me. I really like the depth and intensity of the Dingwall colors and also like the way that the shop has made them work with transparency. That's one of the reasons I chose a colorful finish with very 'active' top-wood for my Z. One of my ideas would be to commission a Z and say 'this is the sound I'm after'...you pick the woods and finish and just see what comes out!
