Hey Sheldon, Have you, or are you planning on developing a split P pickup for the SuperJ 5?

I actually emailed Sheldon about exactly this a month or two ago. He said a split P won't fit on the SJ5 pickguard as it is currently designed so they haven't pressed forward with it. But he did point out that soloing the neck pickup in series mode gives you a pretty solid P tone.

A 5 string P pup would be great as an option on a Z3: ZP3  (useful, not so much. But might look killer!)

If the long side of the split is on the bottom three strings (B E A) and the short side is on the two treble strings (D G), it might fit; similar to the 4-string SuperPJ. Aesthetically, the sides wouldn't be equal lengths, but it could work.

I'm hearing that the Super P/J 5 P pickup is in the works and may soon be available. I had to take a peak under the pickguard to see what the universal route looked like, and it looks like a P bass style pup will go right in there. Perfect! I can't wait! The passive P bass sound on my SJ 4 is the bread and butter tone for me. The route looks like it will put the pup a bit further from the neck than the existing J style pup. I think I'll like that too. Thanks for thinking ahead and planning for new possibilities! Of course a new pick guard will be needed, and I was wondering what happened to the mock up part of the web sight. The "build your Super J" demo, where I could try on new colors and pick guards. I sure liked playing with that. Am I missing it, or did it go away with the old web sight? I would like to make the change to the P bass pup and get a white perloid pick guard. Any idea when that could happen and what the cost might be? Thanks!

Yes the Super J with a split P-style pickup was announced a few days ago from Sheldon Dingwall and I have just ordered one, (the whole bass that is) as you can see in my signature line also you can read Sheldon's announcement here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1563
