Are Super Phatties available for individual order? I'm planning on buying a Dingwall bass at some point in the near future and might even consider getting it modified to add/replace existing pickups with Phats. :) EG

Hey EG, I'm not Dingwall Sales, but I can say that I don't believe you'll be able to gracefully replace FD3 pickups with Fatties due to the size and shape.

OTOH, since the super fatties are slimmer than FD-3s, it could be do-able. But, why do you want the super fatties? Have you heard them? What are you trying to achieve tone-wise that the FD-3s aren't suitable for?

I am not Dingwall Sales as well (some Ding-aholics may doubt that :P :P :P ) but IME the Super Fatties are very dissimilar to the FD3's shapewise. Any Dingwall with FDs will need major routing, leaving big gaps around the Super Fatties. Personally, I would not do it

T'was simply an idea I've considered - if I end up buying a used AB-II and don't mind leaving it with my luthier for a while, I could always *consider* replacing the bridge pickup with two Phatties side-by-side, leaving no gaps of any sort. I suspect two of them jammed together would be larger than a single FD-1 or 3, so the overall routing is larger. :) Would it then be called an AB-3? :p Feel free to cringe, or criticise, it's just an idea. :) EG

Thanks Dingwall Sales, how much each? And are they wound differently for different positions, or all the same? EG

EG, You might consider the FD-3 4L as a replacement, which is the switchable FD-3/Mach II (internal parallel/series coils). I love mine and do use the switching capability regularily. They are the same dimensions as the standard FD-3. Someday soon I'll have a Z3 by which to compare the Super Phatties to the FD-3/Mach II. I'm curious to hear the differences/similarities.

The only thing I can say this moment is that the Z3 is a Dingwall and it sounds HUGE. The rest I will post in the review very soon

I'd like to know too Dingwall Sales if the SP can be used in both positions. How about the FD3's/MachII's too, are they bridge and neck specific?
