Hi shaldon, I looking for a new bass, and after hearing Alberto play an ABZ on youtube I knew the sound I want :D . Dingwall's are however financially out of my budget  So I was thinking maybe ordering some Dingwall FD4 4-L and buying a slightly less expensive bass to put them into. Question: what is the smallest string spacing for these pups. I fear it's gonna be huge (I like 17 - 18 mm most), but I just had to ask to have explored all options of this sound. (I know the rest of the bass is going to make it different anyway, but still... Thanks Roelof

We make a version of the FD3 for other builders. 18 mm spacing for 5's and 6's, 19 mm for 4's. Seems like by the time you bought a set plus a cheaper bass to put them in you'll have spent as much as a used Combustion would cost though.

I have to agree with Sheldon's suggestion. By going that route you'd be missing on fanned frets, good strap balance, and a thundering B, for almost the same money involved.
