Howdy there- fellow Texan- Glad to see another Dingwallian in state. I too play little clubs and keep it real whenever possible. I remember that bass on the 'bay- i bid on it. Anyway here i am payin dues First photo, me w/ the gang, playing a biker bar. i got my Black Ab I fretless bass. The guitard player on my left (in white) is amazing, he studied under Eric Johnson for 5yrs. Kids a social misfit, but boy can he play--sorry Henry. He does it all, malmsteen, Johnson satriani, morse, then add a ton of jazz and zappa. Second photo-me just groovin on open mike nite at a huge barn size club in Houston. I was house bassist for open mike nite. Played for 4 hrs stright-yikes. The bass is Dingwall Afterburner 042, single piece neck, Barts, and no blue cube. Love the bass, thought the barts held the bass back. frank

Great to hear from you, Frank. I suppose we are in an elite group- Dingwall owners in Texas. I love this forum. It's a great way to share ideas and thoughts, and it's long overdue. I have wanted a Dingwall for about 6 years, since I saw them in Bass Player. Soon after that, I got a quote from Sheldon about building a bass exactly like my Voodoo, but the price was just too much at the time. Fast forward to '04, and I see this bass on ebay. I called a buddy of mine, Jim, who I knew had played a Dingwall at a guitar show and I asked him about the fanned frets and he said, "It will be no problem for you. Your gonna get that bass, I know it". I said, "You think so?" "Definitely", he replied, "It's [i:cli57b77]you[/i:cli57b77], man". And so, it was as Jim had predicted. My black-burst AB5 is to be delivered in Feburary. Happy new year! I'm getting it primarily to keep from having to haul my precious Voodoo to the club and less desirable gigs. I'm ruined to Dingwalls! I wonder if a 4 string Ding is in in my future? later, bro, Mark

i apologize for the poor quality but these were taken with my cellphone camera. It was a friend and myself taking a shot at a reggae tune. My friend (who is on the pics) loves my Dingwalls and he was more than happy to put his Fender back in it's case to try my Dingwall. The recording engineer commented on the "best bass sound he had ever heard" as soon as the Dingwall went into the board. He chose the Dingwall sound, hands down to the sound provided by my friend's bass.

Here's my Z2 and I onstage at the Ogden Theater, Denver, Colorado. You can just barely see the headstock of my AB I behind me. Also largely obscured is my "Godzilla Rig"; a Tech 21 RBI preamp, Yamaha P7000S power amp (900 w/ch into 4 ohms), Fender 215 loaded with Eminence Kappa Pro 15LFs, and two Sunn 410s. My trusty Boss GT-6B is on the floor, ready to turn the beautiful sound of my Dingies into an infrasonic shockwave of DOOM!

Just finished some recording for a friend's instructional dvd with an Avalon U5 and a Z1 of course. The pics are from a cell phone camera. The recording engineer said "This bass has no ugly frequencies, nowhere across the spectrum" "first time ever i run a bass flat" "No muddiness here; clear and full sonic identity" "most harmonically rich instrument i've heard" And the answer for this sonic perfection lies on the t-shirt!!! (does it read "Done-well??? it sure does) PS I have been sleepless for few days so please don't comment on how ugly i look!!! Just stare at the beauty i'm holding

Last Thursday (7/20/06) I was to play at "Guitars & Cadillac's" here in Abilene, TX. The other band was "Johnny Lee" from the "Urban Cowboy" movie days. You've heard him in the movie and on the cd soundtrack. During sound check I noticed that Johnny's bassist was playing something verrry familiar. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! It WAS a Dingwall and the bassist was someone I had talked to on the Dingwall Forum. He was SteelandBassPicker from Levelland,TX. We talked when we could and had a great time.
