We're doing a special run of active ABI basses for Jive Sound. Jong was looking for the tone shaping capabilities of the ABII, but with the colors and features of the ABI models.

The first two ship out today. The natural has a really sweet top with some burl clusters to add character. The camera doesn't bring out its figure ot coloration as well as I'd like, but the colors are caramel and wheat. The trans Indigo has a really nice flame top too. We went a little lighter in the center, to make it more of a saphireburst. It's less purple looking in natural light but there is a red undertone to the blue.

Great looking bass and I am sure they sound fantastic too. Sheldon, If you are trying to awaken my hybernating GAS, you are headed the right direction. I have to keep reminding myself of the Artist Prima and a fretless that I would like to aquire in the future, in order to keep GAS free for the time being at least

Really nice. I love the AB design but never really grooved on the dark natural wood combo with it on the ABII...this really works for me as a concept.

Love the concept, and was actually inches away from getting one of these :o However, the abII that just surfaced used saved me enough $ to tip me over.

(yeah jong called them ab1,5's too, haha)

Jong done me wrong, an active AB1 a year too late
I remember standing in his shop A/B'ing (no pun intended) an ABI and ABII and saying I wished the ABI had active electronics :D

Don't stop making passive AB I's!

Some people prefer passive--me for example. I still marvel at those guys who have a preamp on their bass, a two-channel preamp stompbox like a tonebone , two preamp channels on their amp--I mean, eventually you have to stop tweaking and play! :)

I'd like to see a run of passive ABII's--I like the look of the ABII's a lot

I don't think that stopping the passive AB1s was ever a consideration, Sheldon says this is just a special run, so don't be afraid. It's more likely that there won't be any other active AB1s after this, or at least not too often.

Me too. So much so that my Z will hopefully be the 1st passive Z, with the simplest possible controls. Although I prefer passive instruments, I still think that more variety of choice is a great thing. When all the AB1s around came in only a handful of finishes, and the AB2s were all bubinga, it was a bit of a drag. I dig seeing all the new faces!

yeah i usually just run things straight, but like having the options to suit the situation, and get the extra boost you might need right there and then. i think both active ab1's and passive ab2's are great ideas, altho i prefer the look of the ab2
