If Jjango isn't on the Dingwall payroll yet, he should be. The SuperP, as he has rendered it, is outstanding. I had asked about an SP when I was dreaming up my SJ, but it was a long way off, so I went ahead with it the SJ. The GAS hurts, again. Jjango- let's see a Bronze Age SP with Baltic amber and wenge. (I hope we're not abusing your talents, but this is big fun waiting to see what you'll come up with next!) Mark

All these hypothetical Super P pics look great. But I don't think the split P pickup will look like that if and when Sheldon decides to put one on a 5-string. The A-string is crossing over the corners of both sides of the split. It would probably sound quite different from the rest of the strings.

I have an idea about the A string that may be of help There has been another idea proposed from another Ding-aholic too (not that long ago IIRC) And here is an idea that exists from 2001-2002 on the Super PJ prototype (thank you for the bass Mr Brignadello  )

It might if it's hollow in one of the pickups where it crosses both of the strings.

I'm having fun knocking these out! [img:3aw9dp4j]http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/7751/bronzeagens1.jpg[/img:3aw9dp4j] Regarding the comments about the shape of the P pickups, yeah, I went more for looks than accuracy there. I didn't know if Sheldon has ever used 5-string P pickups, so I kind of went for the idea that Smallmouth was talking about

If I understood correctly, you might as well add a bridge FD3. That's what I was going to ask as well

Nope, that looks like a single coil SuperPhatty. The FD-3 would be a humbucker - like one of these: [img:1gd6rfme]http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c277/Brim79/Dingwall/ABII-5%20Walnut%20Burl/abii5_walnut_burl_xtop_body_1_120.jpg[/img:1gd6rfme] Just had a thought Jjango, shouldn't the body of the SP5 be a bit more off-set. I know traditionally (Fender) the P-bass was symmetrical and the J-bass was offset. But, in keeping with Dingwall "design", shouldn't the body be at least a bit offset in order to catch the angle of the bridge more. Here is a reference of Smallmouthbass's new SJ5 - see the exaggerate offset: [img:1gd6rfme]http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w267/Smallmouth_Bass/SJ5010.jpg[/img:1gd6rfme] Of course the SJ5 / SJ4 bodies have a more exaggerated offset due to the fanned fret system and the fact that they were "originally" offset (Fender design). [b:1gd6rfme]OR[/b:1gd6rfme]....do you guys think the SP5 should have a symmetrical body shape??

[b:1p4z0zc4]OR[/b:1p4z0zc4]....do you guys think the SP5 should have a symmetrical body shape??[/quote:1p4z0zc4] Well... and this is just my opinion... but I always figured that Sheldon altered the shape of the Jazz so that the angled bridge would not go off the body. BLACK = Dingwall GREEN = Fender[/color:1p4z0zc4][/size:1p4z0zc4] [img:1p4z0zc4]http://xs230.xs.to/xs230/08352/bodies412.jpg[/img:1p4z0zc4] In addition, the bottom cutaway is deeper to give better access to the additional two frets.[/size:1p4z0zc4] This necessarily makes the body larger (and heavier), but it is necessary to keep the bridge from going over the edge. Since the P shape does not suffer from this obstacle, it seems (IMO) best to keep the body as close to the classic shape as possible. The P is always touted as the "smaller, lighter" bass when compared to the Jazz. Also

SPYD3R and FRB, is this what you meant? [img:223biio5]http://xs130.xs.to/xs130/08352/quilt_burst_fd3981.jpg[/img:223biio5] [img:223biio5]http://xs130.xs.to/xs130/08352/3ts_fd3584.jpg[/img:223biio5] It's a bit cramped back there... then again, I once had a Precision where the former owner had installed a J pickup just a [i:223biio5]hair[/i:223biio5] away from the bridge, and in my opinion, it sounded great.
