These are going to GuitarX in Denver. Gary has committed to a run of 12 Limited Edition Quilt top ABIIs. The 6 is a fretless.

He managed to talk us into a Buckeye one as well. Gary can be a persuasive dude when he wants to :)

Cool, are those all walnut necked?

Are the new ABII's not equipped with an active/passive switch?

Awesome run Sheldon.

funk - I think it's a push/pull on the volume knob but I could be wrong.

These are just sick! I've been telling myself my next Dingwall is going to be a Z, but after talking to Gary @ GuitarX and seeing this first run of ABII's, I'm starting to have second thoughts......

Sheldon, how do these balance with the walnut neck?

We've started using Glockenklang pre-amps. The active/passive switch is on the volume.

Walnut necks are significantly lighter than maple & bubinga. So if anything, balance is even better. With the addition of HD carbon fiber, they are equally as stiff. The tone is more open, airy and acoustic-like.

They are breath taking, really. Especially the fretless one made me run and grab my fretless. Now I know why I am lusting after Dingwalls. Sheldon, you are one bad influence on me!!!!

I had been thinking there would be no point in a fretless Dingwall, until I saw that. What a nice companion to my fretted 6 that would be.

Interesting. Why the switch from Aguilar Sheldon? (You've made my ABII more obsolete now!! :))

I have found no use of the active settings as of lately  . The passive settings along with the number of Dingwalls I own allow me to cater ANY tone I can think of

Still I'd love to try the Glock preamp. PM your way

The Aguilar and Bartolini pre-amps that we've used in the past are all great pre-amps. We switched to Glockenklang for a number of minor reasons. Glocks are slightly quieter in really noisy situations, they come with all the components so we don't have to source the volume pot and switches separately (this may seem minor, but we don't have a dedicated purchaser so the fewer purchasing headaches the better), they have less range on the controls so there's less opportunity to "over-eq".

Awesome news on the glockenklang, I've been planning to put one in my prima anyway for quite a while now (and I will once my fd-3-4ls arrive in a few weeks). I haven't tried it, but if I can judge by the preamp section of my heart rock head, it will be fantastic and very musical.

Sheldon does this mean my new Z3 will come with a Glockenklang pre-amp?
And for that matter Prima's as well or is it just AB's? Is there any reason to and is there a retrofit available for 3.4L's?

I think all Dingwalls will come with glocks, except for Combustions I guess. If you're happy with the aguilar, I'd leave it alone - it's a great preamp as well, and many might prefer it.

The maple top is mine. I'm simply amazed!
I bought this completely on a whim. Why? I had been impressed with Gary as a shop proprietor and the vast majority of reviews of Dingwalls were excellent, so, I took a chance (yes, a potentially costly one, but ya only go around once, etc).
I lucked out, I'd say!

One question: I have been told this bass comes with an Aguilar preamp but now I'm not so sure. Can anyone tell me with certainty?

I cannot wait to play this baby, my Holiday present to myself.
Many thanks to Mr. Sheldon Dingwall, Gary at GuitarX, and everyone at Dingwall!

Russ

Congrats, RalphL and welcome to the Dingwall forum/family. Your's almost certainly has the Glock as there is no on/off toggle switch on your bass. The Glock's have a push/pull pre/vol switch, down/on, up/off, whereas the Aggies have traditionally had the toggle.

Enjoy and keep us posted.

Thanks for the info, John.

I prefer the Glock. This only makes the deal sweeter! I've used almost every preamp available. This is one of the absolute best!
I simply cannot believe how this has all worked out. I am thrilled!

Thank you one and all!!
:-D
