Finaly the moment is near! Time to collect the rest of the money and arrange the order and the shipping. I always wanted to have LED's retro-fitted in my basses but they were just not worth it. But now i have a Dingwall it's time to fit the long-expected Gold Laser LED's. I thinkt the 1st Dingwall owner with LED's...?!
Greetings from t Holland, Erwin

That will be very cool! If the fanned frets were not enough to get some attention, those LEDs sure will. :D

Sheldon, does the routing and mounting of the LED's effect the tone or resonance that you can tell? Does it have to be built in or can you retro fit LED's?

Hey, Erwin. Please fill us in on exactly how these LEDs are installed. Can the brightness be adjusted? I wonder what this does to a warranty? It will void it, I'll bet. Cool idea, though.

The LED's will be retro fitted in the nech without removing the fingerboard. And i still don't know how they do it. The side LED's will be placed where the side dots are. The front Lasers will be placed before they drill the holes for it. The influense on the sound is nihil. I mean, thats SimS trade mark: "Your bass will feel and play the same as you are used to'' I also let them rout and place a battery cavity.
The big black block is a pickup for Roland's V-Bass modulation system. Very cool by the way...
I think i have the LED's before the and of the year.

Ow yes, about the brightness:
You can choose for different kinds of "dots" that goes over the LED's. And after that the brightness can be adjusted. Like mine, those are not really lasers, bur they are 1000 times brighter than te normal side LED's
And about the warranty. The life time of each (laser)LED is 100,000 hour. About 11 years. So that are a lot of gigs

Right. Sounds like the neck gets pretty drilled up to fit the 24 LEDs needed. I'd have to see one installed to trust it.

If there's one thing I want, it's Frets, with Frickin Lazer Beams. I mean c'mon. Is that too much to ask? Throw me a bone here!

Apparently, it is not too much to ask.

Those things look really comfortable to play with on.
I am sure your audience would really enjoy the constant lasers in the face too.

Those are the things i DONT like from SimS. Laser rings and headstock lasers. Well, thats my opinion...
And my lasers are not really Lasers. Just ultra bright LED's.
The warrarnty on my bass: I don't care. It's a super bass!
Greetings, Erwin

To SimS credit is it's list of high-profile endorsers. After a squint at the website, I'm sort of intrigued. I'd like to see these in person. Hey, Texans, anybody got 'em?

I dunno guys...too much bling bling for my taste. I'd think the fanned frets would have enough "wow" factor to turn heads...not to mentioned upon closer inspection the craft level Dingwalls have. But whatever floats your boat.

I would make the analogy that laser markers on guitars are like ground FX lights on a honda civic rice-mobile. Hehe. Not my cup of tea.

Peace,

Brim

I think depending upon the situation they can look cool.

I'm glad that the option is available to those who want it, and Sims is well known as a quality vendor. If you look at some of the inlay/led sets you might notice some of the work they've done with luthiers like Ritter and Status.

I don't need any myself, but good for Erwin for going for something that he's wanted to do for a while now.

Erwin, I hope they come out just the way you want!

I have Sims LEDs on my Sei 5. I have chosen to have only the side ones just for me to see in a very dark stage. The same option I chose for my Custom Empathy 5 Status Graphite (Status' own LEDs).

Initially it's nice to look and impress but I don't think I will ask for LEDs in another bass. Then again I will not go for a J bass either  . Anything that makes the person happy it's OK (within reason of course)
