Thanks, Sheldon. I've had pix the shop and various Dingwall basses/players on my screensaver slideshow for quite a while (I've saved nearly every picture of Dingwall-related stuff I've ever found). A buddy was over yesterday and saw the pix of the shop scrolling by and said, "Why do you have shots of that on your computer?" I replied, " You would have to own a Dingwall to understand."

Nice!

I always enjoy this kind of stuff. There's no such thing as too much! Some of those tools look pretty interesting too. How many of them are custom builds?

Importantly....
do you guys do any work?
The place is clean. I don't see sawdust or shavings anywhere.
Are you sure you don't take folks down into the basement where you set up a fake dingwall shop, that way you can show them what you want w/o giving away any trade secrets, plus you can hold them captive. i saw silence of the lambs- i know whats goin on.

Very few of the tools and machines are stock. We usually modify them to suit our purpose. Even our CNC had a custom table designed and built, custom router brackets etc.

Some machines are single purpose, but most have been designed with enough flexibility to handle 2 or 3 processes.

LOL.

I would have taken more photos, but when I started looking at things from an outsiders perspective, I started noticing how much crap we had laying around.

As far as the dust and wood chips, we've got 3 dust collectors, 3 shop vacs and a couple of brooms. We're finally starting to figure out what they're for.

Yeah, that chair looks like it came out of my grandmother's kitchen in the 70's.

There must be some special mojo that chair gives off and the person sitting in it transfers the coolness into the basses.

Can you believe they only wanted $5.00 for that? Garage sales and ebay are a luthier's best friend. :D

Great pictures. It really gives an idea what the inside of a bass luthiers shop looks like. Nice to see all those basses in production as well. Really looks like there is alot of production going on. Sheldon I looked very hard at those basses in production and didn't seem to find my Prima Artist? How are we doing?
Regards, David

Sheldon-
in your oiling rack photo- the very left most body appears to be something different. It looks almost like a rickenbacker body. Anything new and exciting to tell? Is it one of those Geetars
Also the 3rd bass body in w/ the green tape on it. what a great color, it appears to be some sort of light purple burst. can you show that body?
thanks
frank

Hi Frank,

That far left body is Byron Olsen's 7-string. We buffed through the color on the binding a bit (about the size of a pin head) and need to touch it up and re-do the clear.

The purplish looking body just looks that way because of the lighting and sanded finish. It's actually a 3-tone.

David, your bass is in the wood room awaiting it's turn at bat.

Hi Sheldon,
It's great to know I'm in the line up. Do you know when my turn at bat is? HA! HA!
