I know some on this forum are from Saskatchewan, and I'm guessing some ride bikes. SGI currently has a proposal in to raise rates. For most vehicles it is fairly moderate 1-2%. For motorcycles they are trying to raise rates by an average of 73% with many types of bikes being much higher (highest is 459%!, for my bike it will be 236%). Many riders will pay more in a year than their bike is worth. There is a petition to try and stop this here: [url:3w1vdtrc]http://www.change.org/stopsgi[/url:3w1vdtrc] There is also a facebook group trying to fight this here: [url:3w1vdtrc]http://www.facebook.com/groups/248400351962414/[/url:3w1vdtrc] For those not from Saskatchewan, we have government insurance, and for autos it is the only available insurance so we are forced to go with them. If this goes through lots of guys will be paying more than 2000 a year, and if they hopped over one province to Alberta they would probably be paying around 700.

Yeah, I'm pretty ticked about this! My bike is going up 120% to ~$3700/yr which is higher than the value of the bike. To me, there is four possible reasons for this: 1. It's a cash grab, plain and simple 2. It's an attempt to get motorcyclists off the road 3. They're trying to get a big insurance hike by taking "two steps forward, one step back" 4. They're doing something completely obnoxious to distract from something else the government is doing. Maximum increase is 459% as you mentioned, but even the minimum increase is 24%, which is still huge. Some of the highest rate increases are for smaller beginner bikes between 101 and 400cc. I think they are doing this because they can; they can get away with it because most people are stricly four-wheelers and SGI scares them by saying they've been supplementing my insurance costs for longer than I've been alive (which is BS - they would have done something about it sooner than that if it were true!). But I have more things to say than I care to type about. I'm already getting all worked up! Needless to say heads should roll in SGI management over this one. . .
