60% relative humidity is industry standard for luthier shops, right? Do you have problems with corrosion on metal surfaces because of this (ex. saw blades, machine tops, drill bits, etc)?
42% is the North American indoor RH average. That's what we try to keep our shop at and there is never any problem with corrosion at that level. During rainy summer periods it can get as high as 60% or maybe even 70% but as long as there isn't any condensation on the machines, there's still no problem. Standing water that's dripped from the ceiling is a different matter.
