Yes, it does deserve it's own thread. It's stunning. Thank you, Frank.

Am I the only one who is hoping for the return of non-burst finishes? :) Anybody else?

As a customer, I'm in favour of anything that increases choice of finishes. However, from the luthier's standpoint, more than a few choices becomes costly/time-consuming, so I understand why the AB1 offers the bursts only. Sheldon is quite accomodating as far as Z colours go. What I find a bit of a bummer is that the AB2 comes only in bubinga and......... nicer bubinga; that's pretty limiting (although it's a great looking finish) for what is a pretty pricey bass.

I'd like to see an all walnut ABI-5 w/one peice walnut body, or at least darker woods.

I'm not a fan of the walnut wood colour. That's why I'm happy mine is mahogany!

I like the bursts.
Now a white ABI with a matching headstock, that might be interesting...

That would be cool, maybe with a faint blue pearl flip-flop clear coat. I would love to see the option of solid colors return, as well :)

I am wierd in that I like solid colors, especially metallics. I guess it's the 80's rocker in me. Of course you probably won't see me with a lime green or hot pink bass.

I have owned several natural finished basses, and they never did it for me.

As far a bursts go, my favorite finnish on any instrument ever is that blue-green 6 string Z-2 on the website.

One of these days I want a bass finished just like one of those spiral tie-dye t-shirts.

Sheldon, you think you could make that happen?

Now, I ask you, what's wrong with a hot pink bass?

I really like the pink, but on a SJ I picture it more with a white guard.

Hey, I only said probably.

And for that one to classify as an 80's, it needs no pickguard and neon green knobs. :)

I miss all that goofy stuff. In fact I still have a pointy headstock Charvel guitar that I noodle on from time to time. One of my main guitars in high school was a red BC Rich Warlock with tiger stripe cavity covers, and I drooled over a snakeskin finished Warlock at a local shop for the longest time.

Sheldon, you think you could make that happen?[/quote:2ti1cva4]That T-shirt pic made me immediately think Ritter. I could see Jens coming up with some piece of wood with a "radial flame" pattern, and then having the interest and taking the time necessary to dye it that way.

My guess is a good airbrush artist could pull it off. Back when I worked in the guitar shop, we had a Jackson with a Road Runner and Coyote desert scene painted on it. It was one of the coolest things I had seen.

Here is one kinda similar. We had several of these custom finished models back in the day.

That's fantastic. Mine would have to be Marvin the Martian! Back to the thread - did anyone buy the purple missing link?

If it came fitted with an "Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator" I might have considered it.

I really really want a 4 string AB, and I had a hard time not bidding on it. But I am broke right now and that one was priced a little high for a four string. I priced a new one for only a couple hundred more not too long ago.

Yeah, those modulators are great for eliminating heavenly bodies from my view of Venus.......but they really eat those 9V batteries!

PS-Can someone pm me instructions on including quotes in those cute white boxes, without my crude copy/paste method?

Just get one of those cartoon bateries that never runs out.

To quote: Just hit the quote button in the upper right corner of the post. To do the fancier multiple ones, I think you have to use HTML or some other thing I don't understand. :)

Burningsky just posted the Purple proto on talkbass. I suspect now- esp at a sub 1000 price, it will go bye-bye
