Here's a really cool ABII that features a bunch of firsts.
1st walnut burl top with bubinga contrasting layer
1st walnut neck
1st ABII with carbon fiber reinforcements (rear loaded with bubinga skunk stripes)

Incredible. How's the walnut neck compared to the bubinga? Will wenge necks follow?

Outstanding! That's the coolest ABII so far, IMO. The only improvement possible would be a matching headstock.

I'm not really a fan of AB2's but that sure is a pretty one! Someone will be very very happy with that bass. :)

So, does that mean the neck is now as thin as a Z series neck?

Sheldon, it's not fair!!! You know that I am waiting for my Prima Artist (after 2yrs). Why do you tempt me with Dingwalls like this????

I agree with Hipshot that this belongs to a museum. Anyone willing to donate it to me? :P

Super - fantastic!!!

How about the electronics? Anything different there? It looks like there's no Blue Qube.

One or two Mach II pickups?

The nicest AB2 I've yet seen. It's definietely appropriate that the AB2s have graphite reinforcement at their price point IMO. Bravo!

Thanks for the positive feedback. I'll try to cover all the questions in one post here.

"How's the walnut neck compared to the bubinga? Will wenge necks follow?"

Walnut is lighter, less stiff (hence the carbon fibre) and warmer sounding. It feels more "grainy" to the touch. The carbon fibre adds stiffness and prevents the highs from being damped. The resultant tone seems a little more fullrange (no Eddy I'm not trying to sell you one;)). Deep yet with sparkle. We have no plans for wenge at the moment.

"can you show us the back of the neck (so we can see the stripes)?

I forgot to take a photobooth shot of that, but I have a shop shot.

"The only improvement possible would be a matching headstock. "
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing :(

"So, does that mean the neck is now as thin as a Z series neck? "

No, Afterburners and Z/P's will continue to have their own distinct neck shapes, dimensions and feels.

"where is this going?"

At this point, I don't even know. There's a bit of a mystery brewing.

"How about the electronics? Anything different there? It looks like there's no Blue Qube.

One or two Mach II pickups?"

The electronics are the new standard. FD3 neck, FD3MII bridge. This combination pretty much makes the bluEQube redundant so it's been removed for the sake of cleanliness and simplicity.

If I had to guess on the mystery question concerning it's destination, I'd say to Jim's store in Atlanta.
If so, I may have to check this thing out in person!

Thanks for the pics, Sheldon. I have a new wallpaper, at least.

^ This was my 1st post on the DW forum requesting pretty much the same bass Sheldon just built. I'm glad I have an active pre though, it helps when going direct.

Did someone call my name?

You don't need to try hard to convince me. I am trying hard to keep away from temptations like this, but man, you are making it very difficult. It's very tempting

This is very frustrating. I'm trying to get started on turning my bass into the best ABII there is, and you build this! WHY?! Now my dreams are crushed.

If I know Eddy, then you won't have a hard time to sell him even underwear with the Dingwall name on, let alone a thing of beauty like this ABII!

Anyway, very nice (and thanks for the detailed response!), I love the way things are going with the ABII. Will more walnut AB2 necks follow or is this a one-time thingie?
