Dear Sheldon,
I know from Your site that You have designed and currently build Your pick Ups in shop under Your specifications. In particular, I would like to know the reasons behind Your choice to use Neodymium magnets instead of any other (Alnico, Ceramic). Neodymium has a stronger field, potentially generating a strong string pull (Q-Tuners have this problem, unless screwing down a lot the polar expansion grains). Your pick ups instead are balanced in volume string to string, and no not produce a considerable chorus effect on the upper octave and lower strings.
First question: Why did You consider Neodymium better than Alnico or ceramic for Your basses?
Second question: Did You ever experiment with Silver / Gold wire instead of Polysol, Enamel and the like copper based? What do You think about silver in particular?
Third question: I have lowered down the strings to achieve lowerst action possible on the Z2. Which are Your Optimal distances recommended between strings and pick up in order to minimize chorus effect and string pull?
Thanks Sheldon,
PS: Your Z2 still amazes me. In particular, when at 01:00 in the morning I am still practicing in fron of the television LUMINLAY dots help me place my hand: It is not that I could not do it without, but it looks like the when the airctaft is landing in night... I really enjoy it.
