Hi, I've been looking at the P-tone pick ups on the site and I was to put on in a afterburner one. I am a little confused at what my base has though. I bought the bass new in probally 2008. its doesn't have any sort of switch on it. The newer afterburner's i've seen have some sort of switch. So im just wondering if I got one of these can I just wire it in series like they say on the site?

Along the same line, is there a way to tell when your AB2 has a Mach II FD-3 as opposed to an FD-3? Was the Mach II only put in the bridge position? You almost wish there was a Dingwall timeline for features, but I guess that with custom builds it doesn't really work that way.

The pickups are labelled on the bottom. I'm not sure what was in a 2008 AB1. The bridge pickup at least was probably wired in series. I don't know if it was a Mach II with the series wiring sealed in the pickup or if it was an FD3-4L with two of the four wires joined externally. The P-tone comes with four wires so you can can wire it any way you like: series, parallel or with a toggle switch. Series is recommended for the most P-bass-like tone.

I would start with the "Show your Dingwall" thread. That's a pretty good indicator of almost every innovation since 2005. If I didn't have to earn a living, I would love to camp out in the Dingwall shop for about a year to research the entire history of the company. I hope a historian will do this someday.

I almost started a registry at one point, but we were told that Sheldon had someone working on one. (I think that's how it panned out). Either way, nothing was done that I am aware of. I would also love to have a timeline for all of the changes made. Maybe I shoulod talk nice to Sheldon. . .
