I received my August issue of Bass Player today ([i:27rd9y54]after[/i:27rd9y54] the October issue came:? Thanks, USPS :P ). The teaser on the cover about Xotic's J-style bass reads "Xotic Super-J Bass." Hmmm. A quick turn to the article revealed that is [i:27rd9y54]not[/i:27rd9y54] the model name of the bass, but it still seems some DDG toes may have been stepped on.

Indeed. But it sems that people on forums are beginning to casually refer to high-end J basses (Lull, Sadowsky, et al.) as "Super Js."

Maybe that's OK on a forum, but for a magazine that featured the Dingwall Super-J in a review, this seems like a major blunder.

Granted, I haven't seen the cover yet, but I don't see that it's such a big deal.

Mark--
I'm pretty sure Sheldon didnt trademark the "super-J" moniker, so really its up for grabs.
ALso as mentioned many high end "J" clones have been called superJ's for a long time.

Funny thing is when Sheldon and I were discussing the name of these basses, all my first emails had the title "uberJ" and it kinda of transmoglified into super-J

Thanks for the clarification, Frank. I wonder why he didn't trademark the name?
