I've just orederd a brand new ABII.. . . . . .. . .... I have got a constant feeling of nerves in my stomach and I can't figure out if it's because of the money I have spent on a musical instrument, or because I am totally excited at the prospect of owning such a cool piece of kit....! On reflection it is likely excitement as my lovely wee wife has given the all clear to go ahead and indulge myself in a lifelong goal to own an ideal and perfect bass (as long as she gets to help pick the finish). I want an exotic Super J, but if I peak too soon in instruments - what is there to look forward to....? It's all downhill from the prima artist I'm afraid; and for the time being I want to always have something to work towards. Credit where credit is due, apart from the bass genius which is in the design; for honest and patient sales and service many thanks should go to Mark at Bassdirect UK. Perfect gentleman and patient with very many questions and phonecalls as I was buying from afar without playing it. Having owned an ABZ5 I know I can play the fanfrets with ease, the quality is just making me look forward to it like mad!!!! Thanks to Sheldon for me never losing that warm fuzzy feeling of excitement every time I plug in and play. Regardless of where I am and who is/isn't listening or singing along.

If this is an already-built instrument, you're obligated to post pictures ASAP. :)

I will photo and display once it arrives; no problem. It's not a pre-order as I couldn't wait for it too be built, I would have my fingertips eaten away with anticipation; and then my bass playing days would be over. My plan is to upgrade when I can to a Super J exotic and at that stage I will likely pre-order and individualise for my personal taste. Fact is I have never seen an ugly Dingwall (I'm not saying there are other ugly brands because where basses are concerned - one mans dream is another mans nightmare). But with the number I had to pick from I basically got exactly what I wanted without the wait. Anyone else feel like you are waiting like a kid on a Christmas morning that seems miles away when you are waiting on a bass? And time is your enemy as you wait. . Like donkey in the movie Shrek..... "Are we there yet....?" No. not yet.

Trust me pal, you will love it. I also went from the ABZ5 to the ABII5 but I'm never going to get rid of the ABZ5, that thing it's in a class of its one, and sometimes less is more and by less I mean passive, best passive bass I've ever owned. While the ABII in comparison is all that but also a lot more with better woods, the fact that it's got a chambered body and the glock preamp its like a turbo on a Maserati. What colour combo did you go for? I was up there recently (Bass Direct) and saw most of the ABII's Mark had and this one was one of the best player he had there. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar ... t_Mpl.html

I ordered the bubinga neck, bubinga top with walnut chambered body and trans red finish. To be honest I was torn between the ABI with the purple spalted maple finish but the look of the ABII with the holes and the bubinga neck swayed me. I would have liked to have kept the ABZ5 I had because it will be a different bass to this and because it was my first; but unfortunately cost was holding me back. Next step up will hopefully be a Super J or Z3 with the buckeye burl finish. Bassdirect has one of these but it will be some time before I can do anything other than look and stare and try not to covet too much. It's due Tuesday possibly, (guess what I will be doing on Tuesday night. . . . .) some photos will follow. Just on thinking and looking ahead - maybe jumping straight to Z3 and avoiding the Super J or P is too big a step, don't want to peak too soon and have nothing else to aim for. Are we there yet..........?

My first Dingwall was a 5-string ABII 5 - solid-body Walnut Bubinga. Shortly after that I bought a 6-string, alder/maple AB1 and then a Super J4. In total I own 16 basses of various brands and the ABII is still my favourite. I feel a little guilty for not playing the other Dingwalls very often. I think you will like it.

Bass arrived and was played out on Thursday night. The B string is absolutely incredible, never heard anything like it through the PA. Was doing an acoustic set so played it in passive, can't wait to crank it and drive it on full active with the bass and turned up. I have tried to upload pics but it keeps telling me the filesize is too big.... Anybody help....?

It took me years to figure out how guys put up those beautiful photos, here's the skinny: Make an account at a photo sharing site like photo bucket or imageshack. It's free. Upload your files from your computer. Each photo now has a direct link, cut and paste that into the bracket you get when you hit the Img button in the line of brown buttons under the subject space. It helps to have a couple browser windows open when you are doing this. Hit preview, and if you did it right you will see your photo in your message. If not, try again. You'll get it. It's much easier than it sounds, like this: [img:19fgyl34]http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/7029/p7270016.jpg[/img:19fgyl34] You were expecting a bass picture? Too bad 8) Oh, okay, here:[img:19fgyl34]http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/9808/fearfulskiesangle.jpg[/img:19fgyl34] Once you convert, there's no going back and we have one more guy prowling the waters for Dingwalls.

Sweet bass, health to enjoy, and the sky looks a bit on the dull side, not like the sunshine state of Donegal

Yeah, the sky was angry. Bout 30 seconds after that picture was taken the heavens opened with hail and snow and wind that would have blown you off your feet. Thank goodness for the wall and stone shelter. Not a good place for a gig....
