I played an NG-2 a few weeks ago - but didn't really pay too much attention to 'how' it played since I'm a 4 string player and I was using it to demo a pedal. Anyway...I really, really liked the tone so decided I would wait for the rumoured NG-2 4 string. But...being fickle the possibility of going for the 5 string has been germinating - and I'm impatient! So to the question... I can't demo a Combustion or NG-2 locally with my 'Can I live with a 5 string' head on. However, I can demo an ABZ or AB-I. Looking at the specs here, the scale length is the same, as is width at the nut but the neck profile is different. Anyone got experience of this and can comment on how noticable the difference is? To reiterate - I'm not interested in the tone of the ABZ / AB-I - just how the neck feels physically compared to the NG-2. I'm prepared to pull the trigger on a fiver IF I can get on with the scale length (I play with quite a long strap so those extra couple of inches on the ABZ4 really tell!) Cheers

I asked this question a while ago. Join up to the Dingwall vip group on facebook, lots of great guys on there, many use this forum also. You'll get a quicker answer, if you search far enough down, I asked the same thing a few months ago. Regarding the 4-string dilemma - Dingwalls were built as a solution to the poor B string present on many 5 string basses. The fan fret design is mainly to improve the low B. The benefits pass on to the low E string, but if you're going to get a Dingwall, I personally advise you get a 5 string. It'd be like buying a Ferrari with a 1 litre engine otherwise. Once you play that low B, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it all those years. Mike

I think the benefit on the E string is huge too, not just the phenomenal B we get to enjoy. Very much looking forwards to the potential 4-String Combustions Sheldon mooted a while back on Facebook.

I'm too impatient!! Deposit paid on an NG-2 in Ferrari Green as a stable mate to my ABZ4. Guess I'll just have to adapt!
