I love going to stores with my ABII. I can sit here on the forums all day and dream of a Z3, but when I play it next to any other bass, I'm completely satisfied. I went to a couple yesterday, and the only two that even compared were an AB-I 4 and a Pedulla Thunderbolt 5 ($2900, GC). The Pedulla sounded pretty good, but if my ABII was a 10, the ABI was an 8.5 and the Pedulla was an 8. Just killer. So while I was at GC, the head bass guy (John Myung's college roommate) came out from the back because he could hear it in there and it sounded amazing - through the walls! Sheldon makes the best instruments in the world, hands down.

we played out both friday and saturday night last weekend. i came home thinking how 'right' sheldon and the gang got the super p/j (along with everything else they've built i've owned my dingwalls for a few years now and never has either bass disappointed. and no gas!

I still can't believe the "no gas" part, but it's happened to me too. A couple of years ago I had around 4-5 dream basses on the "to buy" list. Not since I got my prima! All other basses seem primitive. Now I've got gas for more dingwalls... Actually, just an acoustic (if and whenever one comes out). OK, a Z2 or Z3 wouldn't hurt either.

haha... i don't really consider wanting more dingwalls, gas. it's more like evolution...

Brother, you're stokin' my fire. My Bronze Age super P/J-4 (w/fatty) is JUST about to leave the shop. Dingwall Sales's last word on ship date was "the end of March". Have you stayed with the standard strings or have you changed? As a luthier, Sheldon is in his own league AND a prince among men. Thanks again, Sheldon!!! Ken

congrats on the p/j, you'll love it. as far as strings go, i love the stock roundwounds on the ABII, but for the super p/j i like a more vintage vibe and keep coming back to the GHS Pressurewounds. i just like the tension/feel/sound of these strings and they work great on the bass too... make sure you get a picture posted when your p/j arrives...

Thanks, brother! Yeah, I asked Dingwall Sales to slip some string sets for my AB in the package to save a bit of shipping cost. I don't think any shops around here have even heard of Dingwalls much less carry strings for them. I haven't tried the GHS pressure wounds yet. I may have to check 'em out, thanks! I will definitely post a pic when I get the opportunity.

I've been playing mine for a few days now. I just can't imagine a jazz bass getting any better than this one. Eight pounds, eleven ounces of ergonomic perfection and sonic bliss. I'm a sucker for a good precision pickup and this NP-4 just 'does it' for my ears. The parallel setting with the Fatty is all I'd ever want a jazz bass to sound like. Wow.
