maple looks nicer(IMO) and adds a bit of snappyness to your tone. if it's the only maple on your bass the tone isn't going to be as pronounced but if you had one rose wood and one maple bass with the same everything else you'd be able to tell slightly.

I think Maple looks better too. (Now if there was a way to get rid of the fret markers.)

To my ears, the Maple fingerboards sound a bit brighter than either Rosewood or Wenge.

So I got all excited about my maple boarded combustion, only to be told that I can get the maple board but NOT IN CAG! Why all the other finishes but no the green one? Needless to say, I was disappointed. Anyone know why that would be?

I think it would look very cool. It's as simple as just bolting on the maple neck, but the only reason I can think of for the prohibition is that the candy green ones are limited in number. I would email Dingwall Sales and ask him why, though (Sheldon is leaving for China this week...Godspeed, Dr. Wood). However, it seems like a simple matter for the shop to put on a maple neck for you. Let us know what you find out. Mark

Well, I got a reply from Dingwall Sales, and the answer I got was "That's how Sheldon ordered them." I'm sure there's a reason, but I don't know what it is and Dingwall Sales said he doesn't know either. I suppose I could trade necks with someone else's Combustion - they would just swap and bolt on no problem right?

Planning on Christmas being a maple Combustion to compliment my wenge ABII....
