Unfortunately, you're fighting an uphill battle on this one. Dingwall sixers are rare enough as it is, and they come up in the used market very infrequently. It took me a few years (no joke) until I could actually get my hands on one. I've seen exactly 1 used ABZ6 come up for sale (beside the one currently at Bass Direct), and that one was also in Europe. Used ABI or ABII sixers seem to come up at an average rate of about 1 or 2 a year, but they also disappear pretty quickly. Currently, I know of two advertised new sixers in the North American market: 1) A natural ABI at Bass San Diego - [url:dv50srry]http://www.basssandiego.com/dingwallbass.html[/url:dv50srry] 2) A trans black ABI at The Low End, but I can't say for sure that it's still for sale - [url:dv50srry]http://www.thelowend.net/gallery/viewtopic.php?t=5946[/url:dv50srry] Forum member [b:dv50srry]cheamo[/b:dv50srry] also has a 6 string Z1 available for $3500, but I don't think he's looking for trades - [url:dv50srry]http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f126/fs-dingwall-z1-6-string-spalted-maple-$3500-890994/[/url:dv50srry] Can you tell I've spent a bit too much time keeping tabs on these things? Heh... Honestly, I feel like your best bet might be to bite the bullet and order a new ABZ6. That's what I was preparing to do before I snagged an ABI. The price difference between a used ABI (which tend to go for around $1800-1900USD, after which you have to factor in shipping and customs charges) and a new ABZ6 isn't all that much, and it might save you a lot of compulsive checking of the forums/eBay/Craigsjiji, etc. I'll let you know if I stumble upon anything else, though.

For North American 6ers, Don't forget the Natural AB1.5 6er at Jive Sound. http://www.jivesound.com/home/index.php ... &Itemid=30 Similar to the gorgeous Natural AB 6er at Bass San Diego. The one at Jive has no face dots option. But they're not blue per your original inquiry.

I had also forgotten about the blue specification noted in the original post. That really does limit ones chances of finding something on the used market, especially with such rare items. Thankfully, JF has some stunning instruments to keep him occupied until a sixer comes up. Incidentally, to [b:1608c2sa]thebluesnote[/b:1608c2sa]: even my wife agreed that your sixers are gorgeous. I hope the fretless went (or will go) to an appreciative home!

I have a 2006 AB 1 six-string that I would be willing to part with if I had a chance to get a five-string Z or Sklar. Not straight trade, of course, I'm not that lucky. :) But my bass isn't blue. It's a flame maple top on alder body with maple neck and wenge fretboard. It has two FD3-4L pickups and customized passive electronics. (series/parallel for each pickup) plus the standard selector. (I also have the original FD3 pickups) It has seen little use. I mainly play a 5-string AB2. This is an old photo before the second toggle switch was added. The pair of switches are mounted side by side like on the old AB2s. [img:25dsteg6]http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk224/pomoro/Dingwall06AfterburnerI-11.jpg[/img:25dsteg6]

Everyone thanks for the input and examples, I have been searching a while, and none of these are quite right, but keep them coming! as i am serious about the 6 (it could be a Z, AB, or ABZ really- just about the right one at the right price- since i live in Edmonton - the euro/usa options are just too much to pay when i can build at Canadian prices through AXE music) so still interested in trades, or any hot buys, or any othe DW 6's period! (New or used) thanx jf

The no-dots isnt an option, that's how they came. It was around 2008 that Sheldon retrofitted my 2005 ABI neck with dots, the first AB w/ dots. Dots became standard after that. I suppose you could delete them on a new order, but I find they help me .

ok, call it a little bump here, i have decided, i can't possibly part with my Z3 5 string shown here, but am still actively looking for a Dingwall 6 string, (actively, but carefully, i am looking for the right one at the right time - ie Cheamo's was very close!) any one with a lead let me know (ie Z3 6 string is ideal, would consider any 6 made by Dingwall preferably active)

I'll sell you my AB-II 6er for the price of a new Prima Artist in a heartbeat! :P Lol, ok, not a funny joke, sorry. All the best in your search. When I bought mine off the forum here, I was checking almost daily. If you see the one you want, JUMP ON IT! Don't let someone else snatch it up from you.

Lately I have been liking the tone of alder and maple so I put down my walnut/bubinga AB2-5 and started to regularly play my flame maple AB1-6 (pictured above). I'm so glad I didn't sell it. After owning it for almost seven years and not playing it very much, I suddenly found the neck very comfortable to play and I even find the odd occasion to make good use of the C string. I don't mean to tease you. Just think of this as another testimonial endorsement of the Afterburner 1-6. I finally had a chance to play an ABZ 5-string recently. The neck felt a little chunkier than my AB1 & AB2. It reminded me of a Combustion - but not as chunky. If I get another Afterburner it will probably be an AB 1 or 2 - but that's after I get a Z or a Sklar.

thanks for the insight, I think i really want a Z3 6, but the ABZ is a low cost way to hear the combo of the FD3 pickup and the Ash body (I have not been able to see / hear that combo) the AB1 5 i have has a fantastic always great sound, and playablity - so i think i may love the Z3 6 but I might actually love the sound of Alder better than Ash...(on the fence....and that would be the key sound to compare (i have the z2 and 3 - both with Alder treble sides, and swamp or northern ash bass sides- but have not been able to hear the combo of Ash/FD3) i keep looking! would love to hear any other model/wood/pick up combination comments out there (From all !) jf
