Greetz all, My first and ensuing experiences with Dingwalls have been at Bass Northwest. Actually I was a just becoming a bass player when I picked up my first one, and it stood heads above all others for the low B in particular... actually the bass in its entirety made a lasting impession. But I gravitated toward fretless only, and was hesitant to deal with fanning on a fretless back then. But I've never forgotten that formative experience - how fine that bass sounded! So I've tried to get in there from Montana occasionally to check whether that was just a reality distoriton filed I was in as a newbie... Well, that has resulted in me being a proponent for Dingwalls and Novax for the past five years on forums and I think I may even have helped talk some ERB-oriented luthiers and their customers into checking it out during this time. I checked LOCAL dealer though Bass Northwest is around 600 miles away ; } ...Anyway, it's good to finally migrate myself to the better forum and read all the great talk here!

Bass Player magazine last month. They had the Prima in there.

I went to my local guitar store in calgary Axe music, played one, decided i must have one, and ordered one!

The name was mentioned on another website and I got curious and started reading up on these fine basses. Turns out Dingwall is based the next provice over and only about 12 hours away! Now I have been gasing ever since.

I read about Dingwall several times in the pages of Bass Player. Starting with the ultimate 5-string shootout and every other appearance thereafter. I always had the idea of a dream bass in my head, although it was an ever changing choice. I liked the idea of carbon graphite-necked instruments, but everytime I tried a Modulus, it just didn't feel right. Then there were always the high end superwood custom basses like Fodera and Ken Smith. And of course, the vintage classics, such as the P-Bass and Jazz Bass... The fanned fret concept just seemed to make sense, but I never had the opportunity to try one until many years aften the initial review I had read. The sound, feel and craftsmanship was just amazing and I knew I would eventually have to have one. Last year, that became a reality - less than a year after I tried one. It is my dream bass!

BassCentral, a year and a half ago. I was looking for a five string, and missed out on a Steinberger XQ5 on the 'Bay (it was trans. green like mine is , I still have a thing for 'Bergers!) I was also looking at Kubicki X-Factors but price was too high. I ran across Dingwalls on BC's site and thought they were pretty sweet. I did my research on them, but price-wise they were unobtanium at the time. I settled for an older Peavey TL-5. That bass was flawed to begin with, so after six frustrating months I sold it. Tax time rolled around again, so I was itching for another bass, especially one to meet the demands of the band I'm in (drop-D and some C stuff). Kubicki's were in the sights but I felt I needed the extra string, so I was going to get a Cirrus - then viola, my Zebra appeared and it was all over. And that's my story and I'm sticking to it... I was in Bass Northwest and I saw a guy in the corner playing a nice white bass with weird slanty frets. The rest is history.

I first saw them in an advertisement in an Axe Music magazine that I got in the mail in probably 1997 or so. Then I got to play one in 1999 and I've owned one ever since.

I'd read about them in Bass Player, and finally got to sit down with an ABII and a Z-1 last november at Club Bass in Toronto, and HOLY CRAP! I've been using fanned fret Acacia 5's and 6's for years, but the Dingwall was a whole other animal. I ordered my Z-1 in January when Midwest Music here in Cincinnati jumped on board Soon it will be done...

I read about them on Talkbass.com, found a Denver dealer, went to the shop, played an ABI-5 and bought it all within about 40 minutes (from reading about them to buying). Liked the ABI so much I bought an ABII-4 the next day from BassNW (then had to sell a slew of Warwicks to come up with the $$$). They happened to be sequential serial numbers. Both have moved on to other homes - as I have replaced them with a Prima 5 and a SuperJ!!!

I started hearing the name on TalkBass and got curious which led to some web searching and the more I read the more I liked what I was hearing. Unfortunately I've never seen one other than pictures and it's driving me nuts.

i've first read about the Dingwalls in the Ultimate 5-string issue of Bass Player magazine. Having started with the left foot as a bass player in 1995 (bought my first bass, 5-string that was, a week before a concert; i was playing the guitar till that point; no formal training on guitar, let alone bass) i was looking for a great 5-string (my first one is a great high end one but nothing close to a Dingwall). Having bought several basses till 1999, i decided to be daring and buy a bass from Canada that never had i laid my hands on. It turned out the Sheldon had created that bass with me in mind. The bass survived 3 seanonal changes (from icy snow to 40C) 3yrs in a row and never it needed a tweaking. Even after 3yrs of use the set up came back to perfection with just a 1/8 turn (Sheldon has always been great in customer care and support). good everyday maintenance from my side is a positive point (i hope)

Well, I guess this is an appropriate thread for my first post on this forum! I first heard about Dingwall at a local bass-specialty store, The Bass Place in Tempe, Arizona. This was about 4 or 5 years ago. They had 2 ABs, and had sold one by the next time I came in. Well, I grabbed it, as well as a Modulus Q5 which was about double the price, and I kept going back to the Dingwall. It just blew away the Q5. Interestingly, the guy that bought the other AB came in while I was playing the remaining one, and he was totally raving about it. He said he couldn't put the thing down, and that he's selling his other basses. Sadly, they sold the last one before I could scrape upi the cash, and they haven't had one since. They said that they were given about a 2 year wait last time they talked to Sheldon, which was quite some time ago. I keep asking, and they just aren't getting them, so it looks like I'll have to go elsewhere to get my fix. I still don't have one, but I've been GASing ever since that day. I plan to get an AB or AB II 6-string next month, still haven't decided!

AB1 5...the story...., I knew there must be something better than the ordinary basses I had played so I walked into Axe music one friday and laid down the challenge to Moreno, in half an hour I walked out with the AB1-5 for a weekend trial! I practiced with it for 2 hours then played 2 gigs over the weekend, on monday I phoned Moreno and told him he couldn't have his Bass back, he said that was fine but that he would have to make a slight adjustment to my credit card balance....please note; this bass will NEVER be for sale

Back in '98 my Trace Elliot prototype 5 string bass was stolen. My friend Mike Markure was a Dingwall distributor at the time. He told me about Dingwall basses and even lent me his personal Dingwall bass for a few months. Sheldon contacted me and told me that he'd build me a bass. Not long after, that I had the bass! Funny this is, I actually got the Trace Elliot prototype bass back 6 years later (Boy, the story on that one is wild!) though I STILL play my Dingwall! Well, that's my little story, Carl

A watched the Turning Point Live CD at a friends house and WOW. Dimitri Sahnas plays a blue Dingwall the whole concert that just sounds incredible...i have to have one now damn it.
