That's the ABO2 one-off. I nearly spent new-ABII money to snag it from Sheldon, along with a fretless neck, but I passed on it. I'm pretty sure it's been sold to another Dingwall nut, but I'm not sure who. I've haven't seen it on the forum since. Mark

And what does the "o" stand for? FRB - I def. like my 5 str., but going back to 4 is kinda nice. It's lighter, less stuff to worry about, and you can still make some amazing sounding music on one. I VERY rarely use my low B open anyway, usually not much past D - all a matter of prefrence I guess (and perhaps since an mtd "B" won't exactly sound like a Dingwall "B" anyway ). Edit: I wonder how that extra thick body would feel to play.

These pix, when they were posted, are the only time any of us have seen the ABO, as far as I know (indeed, the vast majority of Dingwalls are "missing in action/whereabouts unknown"). I am still enamored with this bass and wish they would offer it on a limited basis. I might make that the Dingwall fretless I plan to get someday. Should've got this one with the 2 neck deal. I'm guessing the O is like in AB1, AB2....hey, do we need an AB3 with a Z3 layout? Mark

lol, well I must be as blind as a bat, 'cause I can't find it. I searched for "abo" "abo2" "abo2 prototype" "prototype" and just can't find it anywhere!

Grand-- yeah- your not blind, seems after i posted that I too went searching. then i recalled that when sheldon switched service providers they got rid of a bunch of old photos & posts. ANyway the ABO photos that i was referring to were not Dingwall-issued display photos, they were Sheldon working on the ABo, had it strapped to a work bench, and working on the bridge. It looked different than those photos

OK so yesterday I went to see some friends play an afternoon acoustic gig at a wine tasting event, and what do I see? Yes, that very bass. However, Sheldon did some mods since those original photos were taken. It now has a fretless neck (I think it was originally fretted), has a different bridge, and now has four knobs (bass, mid, and treble controls added). I can attest to the fact that it sounds, looks, and plays great! I'm not at liberty to identify the owner, but rest assured that it is in good hands (literally), with a good player and multiple-Dingwall owner.

cool - good to hear it's in the hands of a proponent of the brand I understand anonymity, but it would sure be cool to hear from him/her about the bass (just as a curiosity). Oh well. These pics will have to do. Did I understand that right that you got to play it?

Sheldon do you have a pic of the mods done to the hollowbody before it left the shop?

Can you talk Mr. Mysterious into taking some non-revealing, non-incriminating photos of it for you to post so we can all drool over it some more?
