what made you pick the sansamp over the radial bass bone? (I have a bass bone, I used it live for a few years before going to a boss MB50, it was great for exactly what you are talking about, and the pre-set tone filter was a nice modern eq) so i am just curious as i am not familiar with the sansamp... what made you pick one over the other? thanx jf

Although the company is no longer in business, I have had great success with a Raven Labs MDB-1 (Mixer Direct Box). A pretty simple concept, 3 inputs and 3 level controls. No EQ, just Line out (muted if the mute button is in), and an aux out (not effected by the mute button, so good to run to your tuner). Also has a nice XLR DI on the back. You can probably find one used.

I was confused because most people want use the VT Deluxe for Ampeg Tube Modeling. I found it sounds like throwing a blanket over the speakers or it gets clanky, with a few usuable tones in between. I know you have a VB-99 so I am pretty sure you aren't digital-phobic. Source Audio makes an EQ pedal that has 4 presets. http://www.sourceaudio.net/products/too ... ble_eq.php The pedal costs $150, and it should be pretty easy to make adjustments on the fly for a room. That way you could keep your Whirlwind and just put this after it.

Well, occasionally some effects, but not often, and not much. Not interested in an Ampeg tone anymore. Used to play through a Flip-top, an SVT Classic, and an SVT Pro-III, but they don't fit the sound I want these days. I already have a Whirlwind A/B switch which is perfect for what it is, however, I need to be able to set both basses so they sound optimal according to the room and be able to switch quickly between instruments. As it is I'm forced to compromise one of the other. Sometimes also, I'll want a different setting for a particular song, and then go back without having to spend any on-stage adjusting time. So, yes I want presets, and I want to be able to set those presets very fast, and I want them to be clear and immediately accessible. I will check out the DarkGlass stuff, thanks for that. By the way, both the BassBone and the Vt Deluxe have DI.

IF it is just two basses and not about adding OD or other effects then a simple a/b box would do just fine. If you are looking for OD as well, there are many other WAY better units out there besides the Tech 21 IMO. If a few presets and Ampeg-type tone are what you want, then it will do that. (For OD check out DarkGlass Electronics B3k, or B7K, the B7K has more EQ options and a DI)

I used the Radial Bassbone for about a year before I switched to a Line6 X3 live. The Radial worked just fine for me even though I was only using it for my Combustion. I did set up different settings for the 2 channels and just switched between them for 2 totally different sounds. Should work just fine for running 2 separate basses, eq each one the way you want to simplify the change over.
