Hey everyone, I've been lurking on this forum off-and-on for a long time, but have never posted. Here's a couple pictures of my Dingwalls. Left to right: Z1 6-string in Whale Pool Blue, Super J5 Custom Exotic in Greenburst, Voodoo 4-string in Whale Pool Blue. Looking forward to talking about bass with everyone, -Byron

It says so on the original paperwork and company literature from that time. When the body lost the cello hip in an update, the shop phased out the "Voodoo" and just called it a Zebra, which is what the insiders had been calling it anyway. That was eventually shortened to Z. So the 4 banger there would be a Z....no hip. It would look great with mine. :) I'm pretty sure the OPs Z6 used to be featured on the old website. I love the grain on the upper part of the body.

Interesting information. I was actually always under the impression that it was old enough to be a Voodoo as opposed to the a Z. The fellow I bought it off of refered to it as a "Voodoo" and I guess I just never really bothered to look into it more deeply. I am hoping to sell that bass to a good home since it hasn't been getting much attention lately. Feel free to send me a message if you want to discuss that. Thanks for the all the other comments on the basses. The Super J5 has a quilted maple top, but I also took it the step further to get the "premium select".. I think it was worth it, it's a darn nice piece of wood!

As always there's a fair amount of definition slip as Sheldon changed design features along the way with each of the models. Generally speaking we all take the cello-cut body as being a Voodoo and the streamlined body being a Zebra. I would believe there are probably some 'voodoos' out there without the cut, but it makes them pretty indistinguishable from what we know as a Zebra. I usually refer to my bass as a Voodoo/Zebra for having the old body type but what amounts to a fairly modern iteration of the pickups and electronics.
